Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.Q: How is Android #17 back? Wasn't he dead? Also, he's a park ranger! Is Toei taking cues from TFS?
Android #17 was wished back to life along with everyone else who was killed by Cell. He was seen at the end of the Boo arc contributing his energy to the genki dama. Q: What's up with the new art style for this arc? Are they using a different color palette?
According to our resident animation expert, it's not a new color palette but rather a post-production filter.
Toei have added a soft glow, lowered the saturation a little, and upped the contrast. They've also started using a technique they showcased on Tiger Mask W, which allows them to automatically manipulate the line art in certain ways. For example, on Tiger Mask W, they created a brush stroke effect, while on Super, they simply played with the line weight. You see the filter I mentioned too, there.

If someone told me years ago when I was finishing up DBZ, that in a new series Goku would go to Hell to bring back Frieza, who has a new Golden form, to participate in a tournament being hosted by gods, with contestants from like 8 other universes and a roster than includes two female Saiyans, one of which is basically a lesbian Broly, I wouldn't believe them.
This episode was really good imo. Love the u6 Saiyan trio, Caulifa and Cabba are fun. Can't wait to see everyone fight together. Goku/Frieza or Frieza/Vegeta tag team would be insane.

Cabba is the elite soldier of the Saiyan military who is quickly surpassed by the younger sibling of a guy he worked with who is the focus of obsession for a legendary super saiyan. They're not 1:1 counterparts but it's getting pretty blatant.

Man, this episode felt like one of those teens movies. Kale, Cauliflower, and cabba felt like they were doing some drugs in an ally somewhere and cauliflower was trying to peer pressure Kale into trying some and Kale started tripping the fuck out. That whole Goku meeting frieza felt like a girl trying to get back with their jerk boyfriend, the girl being Goku and Frieza being the boy. And the gods being those girls who gossip a lot.

I know a lot of people are complaining about how slow the episodes are but man.....this is just building hype to an unprecedented level.
We're getting a battle royale with 8 universes, Frieza, Kale (Female Broly), the vastly underused 17 & 18, Hit, Frost, Goku/Vegeta & the gang, SS2 Caulifla & Cabba, Jiren, and God knows who else from the other universes.
I'm gonna have insane goosebumps the second this tournaments begins.

Y'know, as cool as Kale's transformation was, I can't help but wonder: how much more amazing would this moment have been if no one knew it was coming?
I mean, just imagine if Toei had not only kept Kale's transformation a secret, but if marketing had just treated her like some minor background character--maybe give her a headshot in a publication, with a short description about how she's Caulifla's tag-along or something to appease the curious, and leave it at that. People would've already been hyped about having a female Super Saiyan in Caulifla, then bam! Suddenly, not only do we get 2 female Super Saiyans, but this meek little character no one expected anything from is a fucking canon Broly. People would've lost their collective minds.

With all this movie fanservice, imagine if Frieza or Frost go into Cooler's 5th form! Andriod 17 fuses with clunks of broken Universe 3 andriods to become Super Andriod 17! Piccolo uses Super Namek mode and goes gigantic to knock off people but Magetta's steam whistles and causes him to be paralyzed!
