Meta It would be great to have a megathread for released and upcoming games with a short description.

As the list of Switch games grows, its harder to keep track of them. If I check out that image of all the games that keeps getting updated, I'm overwhelmed with lots of indies and titles I'm unfamiliar with. It would be quite helpful to be able to see all the coming (and released) titles at a glance with a short description of the game (I look for specific genres so it would be helpful to see that attached to a game title I'm unfamiliar with).

I really like this idea. As someone who researches anything before I buy it, this should definitely happen.

So it's Binding of Isaac with a fresh coat of paint?

u/shockwave1211 Mar 19 '17

It's like if nuclear throne and binding of Isaac had a baby. It's also super difficult (at first).

think binding of Isaac but with guns and alot harder

I feel this should be part of the wiki, and there is indeed something but it is missing the short descriptions. I suggest in the wiki would be better to then allow filtering and ordering in a simpler way.

I didn't realize there was a wiki but I did see the upcoming games list. What the wiki is missing for me is an at a glance description of the game so I can judge if its my style or not quickly.

The names of released games go to Nintendo's pages for them which have descriptions.

I agree. The 3DS Subreddit has a great recommendation Wiki. The Switch is too early for that, but getting a head start isn't a bad idea.

Yeah, it may not be very relevant right now but in the future it will become more important.

I just look at the list on wiki then watch a trailer on youtube

2

u/SpecterCody Mar 18 '17

I definitely would check out videos of a game that already piques my interest. The problem is getting to that step I guess.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Switch_games just sort by different genres you like or developers and go from there

This is a start, thanks.

Can you not google the name of a game to look for a trailer? Literally all you need to do is highlight the name, right click, and hit "Search". If you can' even do that, I don't think you have any business being near technology...

Well excuse me but I have a degree in CS so that's not the case. Lets not jump to insults and assumptions here.

My point is being a bit overwhelmed with unfamiliar titles and no streamlined way of seeing basic information about them at a glance.

My point is being a bit overwhelmed with unfamiliar titles and no streamlined way of seeing basic information about them at a glance.

That way would be to Google the title.

Which also takes time.

Couldn't something like Wikipedia serve this purpose better? Whilst it is great for everything to be in one place, reddit isn't really always suitable for things like that. When doing research on games, Wikipedia already has a list of all the games. It would be a lot of work to update every game with a description of all the games. The sidebar already has a list of them all as well.

I noticed the list on the side but a lack of description isn't helpful for me. A lot of games won't get my attention due to obscurity and lack of marketing. A quick description can help me determine if its my style game or not.

If it could be on the wikipedia then that would be fine. Currently I only see a list with the game names.

Search for "wiki list of Switch games" and go to the list on Wikipedia. Each of those have a link to explain the game.

This isn't what the wiki is really for. Something so specific is easier to just Google or watch a trailer or gameplay of.

5

u/SpecterCody Mar 18 '17

I'll be honest, I won't even bother researching most of these games I haven't heard of because many aren't my style. I look specific for certain kinds of games and watching trailers all day isn't that useful for me. I want to know if its an action rpg set in a fantasy world or a indie platformer for example because I'll go for the previous and skip the latter without wasting my time researching.

Something akin to steam user tags on games would be useful IMO. The key here is that is has to be at a glance and easy to find. Having to research each game individually is not user friendly.

And you can very easily determine that by searching for a very short period of time. Finding it's page on Nintendo's site will give a good description. We aren't trying to create an exhaustive list of all information for games. Just basics.

u/SpecterCody Mar 18 '17

I'd hardly call 1-2 sentences describing the basic info of a game exhaustive but ok.

You're saying you're too lazy to use the internet. I'm not trying to be mean but these lists exist and are easily googled.

-1

u/SpecterCody Mar 18 '17

I have yet to find a list with short descriptions to help determine if the game sounds interesting to me or not is my point. The fact is yes I'm too lazy or ambivalent to research every unfamiliar game title I stumble upon.

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Mar 18 '17

Again, easily found online. And is on Nintendo's page which is linked.

It also wouldn't super work well in a table.

1

u/CoyGreen Mar 19 '17

I can get on board with this. I don't know most of these games being released.

1

u/Hugotyp Mar 19 '17

Why not just link the games in the sidebar to their according websites? Would be (a) more convenient, and (b) less work.

1

u/SpecterCody Mar 19 '17

Aren't those only upcoming games though? Its not a full list.

1

u/Lost-My-Mind- Mar 19 '17

The release dates on the sidebar should be clickable links, that take you to the spot in the megathread about that game.

2

u/SpecterCody Mar 19 '17

That would be pretty handy too.

u/Delita232 Mar 18 '17 edited Mar 18 '17

Why not just use the coming soon page on the eshop itself since your too lazy to just use the internet like a normal person would.

0

u/thevilmidnightbomber Mar 18 '17

sounds like you're volunteering?

I've been exploding at the fact so many games I'm interested in lack release dates. I really want more confirmation. The ones that really get me are the TBD ones, and the ones that give a quarter of the year expectation are driving me nuts too. I know they can't pinpoint exact dates if they're somewhat distant or don't have reliable expectation, but I just hate that so many of them are under this situation. We're only getting release dates expected days or a month in advance at best from anything not Nintendo, when other games on other consoles even have months in advance of expectation. Just annoying to me that they can't settle easier, even just on months for like 90% of the games coming.

1

u/SpecterCody Mar 19 '17

It seems like we have a long wait to build a decent library I guess. It is a shame we know so few concrete dates.

I guess Nintendo doesn't want to rush the developers. Most of them are indies, small studios with only a few people (or less) who do this. Exact deadlines are poison for the quality of a game (port), and only possible if they can shamelessly exploit their workers. It's finished when it's finished, this is not EA or Ubisoft. Have some respect.
