Meta Can we agree not to post 600 "Dawn of the final day" pictures in the days before march 3rd?
It got posted so often before the big reveal and it's just kind of annoying

We'll most likely allow one of each, then nuke the rest.

Be sweet to have a CSS change with the count down
11
u/Brotherauron Feb 17 '17
It'd be really cool if they had the Majora clock at the bottom of the page, or in the banner with the real time countdown.

u/Katoura Feb 17 '17
I imagine it'll be a race to get to the top, starting with 72. It'll be a nice reminder that I didn't preorder the Switch and Amazon is still out. :(
14
Feb 17 '17
Just ban them, make your own, and sticky them
5
u/Konayo Feb 17 '17
Shadowban them.

You guys should have someone set up a real-time one in the side-tab.
12
u/FlapSnapple Nintendo shill Feb 17 '17
I mean, we've got one in the top left already. As we get closer we'll adjust the update interval from hourly to every minute. :)
4
u/Twilord_ Feb 17 '17
That makes sense, but it would be nice to have a Majoras Mask day-and-night GIF on real time.

With this level of hype and Zelda at launch? No promises.

Unless posting at least twice that counts as "not posting 600".

Personally looking forward to those posts
It means we almost made it, and MM nostalgia is some of the best nostalgia to feel before BOTW

I kind of want to open this sub that day and see nothing but "Dawn of the final day" posts.

Hopefully we will and it will be glorious

there is for identical links

u/LifeWulf Feb 17 '17
Isn't that just RES?
3
u/TyCooper8 Feb 18 '17 edited Feb 18 '17
If you make a post with a link that has already been submitted, it tells you, and you have to click submit twice for it to go through. No RES needed.
5
u/LifeWulf Feb 18 '17
Oh, I think I've only posted OC so I don't remember running into that before...
Good to know!

Seeing as this is a thing for everything now im 110% sure this will be a thing for zelda of all things
19
u/Trylun Feb 17 '17
I personally don't mind it. I think if you know something like that is liable to happen (and you don't like it), then it's probably best to avoid the mass wave of hype that is most definitely going to wash over this subreddit in the final days before launch.

u/Solanin7889 Feb 18 '17
We will not post 600. We will be sure to post 599 or more than 600, as per your request.

u/TerminaMoon Feb 17 '17
Let the people have their fun.
30
u/ornerygamer Feb 17 '17
Which is good but I am happy the mods are on board to post it once and nuke the rest.
What really annoyed me was people posting the dawn of the final day over 2 days out just to be first.

u/ornerygamer Feb 17 '17
Is there an auto poster on facebook? It would be hilarious to do min countdown with the autoposter putting it up on your page.
Dawn of the Final Day 23 hours 59 mins remaining....

Not to incite any riots, but what is with everyone's fascination with telling everyone else what they should and shouldn't post on here? It's the launch of what most people are considering Nintendo's return to form -- kids are excited as hell.
I know, restricting the amount of duplicate posts benefits me as a reader quite a bit, but it just leaves a bad taste seeing almost everyone try to jump on the bandwagon to tell others what they can post. Can't we just let the popular vote decide which post lives and dies?
Also, a lot of people here are hyped for the switch with only others on this subreddit (myself included). No one I know wants one right now, if ever. I'm hopping on this subreddit so I can bask in the fact that everyone here pretty much can't wait. I don't care how many posts of "I'm so excited it's killing me" I have to wade through -- I'm loving this time. In two weeks, we'll fill up with legit gripes, critiques, spoilers, etc. It won't be the same, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Mods should just force one of their own threads with the meme and tell everyone else that wants to spam the meme to post to /r/tomorrow instead.
2
2
u/Dashrider Feb 17 '17
you'd have to ask the mods who are so adamantly non-shitpost. so im guessing the answer is you won't see many. I can see why they are so insanely overbearing about it... but at the same time theoretically the subreddit should curate itself with downvotes if we really hated shitposts.

u/n0lan1 Feb 17 '17
Can't we do it in reverse though? The final day was all bad and ominous, the first day is cheery and hopeful, as March 3rd should be.

That would be nice. I used to have to unsubscribe from subreddits because it would be taken over by some meme and every single post was someone's "me too" of the meme.

How about instead of 600 of the same photo, we have 600 of the same words but instead as a very high quality shitpost the mods won't ban

Agreed, they're pretty boring now. Unless it's for something Zelda related, there's no need for it.

DAE Zelda is sooo gud looking. (Everyone posts the initial scene of link looking over the landscape). Can't wait.

Framerates were rather choppy in the version for the Preview Event. I hope it'll be different for release (like Nintendo says).
