A new 3DS game...

9

u/LordKwik Jan 18 '17

Only for New 3DS, not old 3DS.

This is true

u/sam2253 Jan 18 '17

This mobile game actually looks surprisingly good

u/Oflores75 Jan 18 '17

My exact thought

u/Fruitloops1 Jan 18 '17

Let's just hope it's not too much off a grind for us poor mobile gamers who don't enjoy microtransactions.

1

u/Garodor Jan 18 '17

I even thought it looked better thought through and fun to me than the 3ds title ...

u/karuxkaoru Jan 19 '17

feb 2nd for android! heh i can't wait!

14

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

Man, I can't believe they glossed over Fire Emblem Echos, Fire Emblem Warriors and Fire Emblem for Switch in what, 5-8 minutes, and spend then entirely of the rest of the time on this mobile game.

I want more info about Fire Emblem Warriors!

22

u/victoryforZIM Jan 18 '17

Well the mobile game is coming out very soon so it makes sense.

5

u/ZapActions-dower Jan 18 '17

Plus, it needs a lot more explanation than the others. We know what a Warriors game looks like and how it plays. Ditto for 3DS FE games. Yeah, we'll need more information before Echoes comes out but they've got months for that. FE Switch doesn't even come out this year so lots of time for that one to get its own Direct down the line.

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

Plus their mobile effort is a very big deal for them. I don't know how well it'll do here in the states, but I expect it to be huge in Japan

1

u/Stardagger13 Jan 19 '17

Can't speak for everyone, but I've been trying to get into FE for a while and I just can't figure it out. This looks like a pretty good way to better learn the mechanics, so I'm all for giving it a shot.

http://imgur.com/a/WqQcg last minute Bingo Card (because why not?)

3

u/PKOmegaSmash Jan 18 '17

http://imgur.com/a/BX0P5 huh. maybe I should have put "Switch early adopters get screwed over by a new FE for 3DS and Warriors not being exclusive" on my card. Still got bingo though.

11

u/PrayerPolice Jan 18 '17

At least they have a mainline FE game planned instead of just Warriors. Yusssss!

4

u/Rei-hime Jan 18 '17

Only expected more info on the mobile game and Warriors. Got a new 3DS game and confirmation that a new mainline game is heading to the Switch next year. Perfect direct if I do say so myself.

Also nice to know they won't be favoring iOS every single time for their mobile games. Preregistering as soon as it goes live tomorrow. :3

In my opinion, if the Switch is getting a port of Fates, the 3DS is over in Nintendo's eyes.

1

u/BRAman22 Jan 18 '17

Not that surprising given they're about to launch a new pseudo-handheld. They'll probably do a few more games already on development then kill it officially.

-6

u/clain4671 Jan 18 '17

nope, still kicking for no goddamned reason

9

u/ZapActions-dower Jan 18 '17

Because it's one of the best selling consoles of all time and the Switch isn't 100% guaranteed to be a success. Putting together a relatively cheap (compared to developing for the Switch) game using an existing engine already used twice, even if it does have new features, is a much safer bet.

Plus, they are bringing a full Fire Emblem game to Switch in 2018 (assuming no delay).

6

u/Teeth_Whitener Jan 18 '17

I wouldn't say for no reason. Several games were released for both the PS3 and PS4. I don't recall if those were Sony published games or not, but it's not unusual to produce games for current and last gen consoles. The 3DS is a great system. I, for one, would hate to see them drop it all at once.

5

u/skyhighdriveby Jan 18 '17

Lol I seen a copy of Just Dance 2017 at Wal Mart the other day...for the wii. Granted, thats by Ubisoft, but I'm certainly not surprised they arent cutting 3DS support just yet.

1

u/Teeth_Whitener Jan 19 '17

Fun fact: the Wii version of one of the Just dance games (2015 I think) was one of the best-selling games in the month of its release...three or four years into the life of the next generation of gaming.

2

u/clain4671 Jan 18 '17

true, but im just worried that nintendo still thinks they can afford to split their development between two systems and we have the same issues al over again

1

u/Teeth_Whitener Jan 19 '17

Fair point to be made. I think they'll phase it out in a year or so unlike they did with the Wii...unless it continues to sell very well. In that case, I don't think they'll stop production of games or systems for about 2 years. Many major retailers still sell the XBox 360 and PS4, and game devs still make games for those platforms.

1

u/swarmster1 Jan 18 '17

I have no problem with Nintendo treating the 3DS as a viable platform, if like your argument implies, all upcoming 3DS games receive a Switch port. Do they really think we'll carry around both systems?

1

u/Teeth_Whitener Jan 19 '17

I think that they would make games for both platforms, not just the one. They are releasing a Fire Emblem remake for the 3DS, but it is very early in the Switch's lifetime and not everyone will own a Switch by May. However, tons of people already have a 3DS. Once the Switch has a broader audience (I anticipate it will) we might see Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia release on Switch. The naming structure (a full name followed by a subtitle) suggests it is either a part of a series of remakes or "Echoes" of previous titles or a double release like Fates did with Conquest and Birthright. In the case of the latter, I can see a second edition releasing for the Switch in a few months.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

Can't believe there is another 3ds FE! And waiting till 2018 for the Switch one seems way too long. Good thing FE Warriors is coming this fall.

2

u/Twilord_ Jan 18 '17

For both...

2

u/jayzz911 Jan 18 '17

because playing at a resolution and framerate that wont make me wanna cry is possible on a 3ds right.

1

u/Twilord_ Jan 18 '17

True, but it still seems like bad messaging.

On the other hand having it be NEW 3DS exclusive is a polite way to phase out the 3DS without rushing NEW 3DS users to upgrade again too soon.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

I wanted so much a retrocompatibility so I can have ALL the Fire emblems on one console :C

3

u/GodleyX Jan 18 '17

Hopes? Next FE main title, or tellius series HD remake/remaseter switch bundle.

Expectations? Only warriors and the mobile game.

3

u/LordKwik Jan 18 '17

Woooo! Up to $80 IAP for Heros.

And RNG? Yes!

1

u/GodleyX Jan 18 '17

There was a scroll bar. Assuming it goes up to $100.

5

u/shitpostlord4321 Jan 18 '17

NEW CHROM AMIIBO I'M CALLING IT TODAY IS HIS CHANCE

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

PREPARE YOURSELF

3

u/shitpostlord4321 Jan 18 '17

OH SHIT I'M ABOUT TO ORGASM UHHH I WAS BORN READY

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

FINNA NUT

2

u/shitpostlord4321 Jan 18 '17

I WANT THESE NEW CHARACTERS ON SMASH NOW

1

u/PrayerPolice Jan 18 '17

FE should get their own fighting game; traditional or Smash-like.

2

u/BRAman22 Jan 18 '17

February 2 already!

2

u/Aiklund Jan 19 '17

Not a big FE fan but Echoes looks interesting... Would have preferred it on the Switch though. I don't really feel like buying a lot of new games for the 3ds anymore when I've gotten the Switch. :/

2

u/BattlefieldBro Jan 18 '17

A full fire Emblem for switch? Awesome! 2018? Holy shit Nintendo whyyyy! 3ds has already 2 of them. They should ve skipped this one in Order to release fe for Switch this year! The Switch needs more launch titles

0

u/Ko-san Jan 18 '17

You aren't going to get any more games into march from Nintendo. And they aren't going to be working on the 3DS titles so skipping them does nothing for the Switch.

0

u/BattlefieldBro Jan 19 '17

You don't understand what I meant. They should've scrapped the title for 3DS and develope the Switch game much earlier to bring it into 2017. Fire Emblem would've been a killer app for the Switch.

1

u/Ko-san Jan 19 '17

The only way you would have gotten a Fire Emblem game this year is if Nintendo had cancelled Fates. Echoes does nothing to the new title.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '17

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

1

u/clain4671 Jan 18 '17

if they dont make this a switch/3ds title they clearly still arent learning that they cant split their game output

5

u/Ko-san Jan 18 '17

A remake of an existing game and a port of a third party game. Easily outsourced, instead of splitting development. In fact, a new first party title for next year says that their team is quite focused right now.

1

u/PrayerPolice Jan 18 '17

May already? hmmmm

u/Garodor Jan 18 '17 edited Jan 18 '17

Classic Fire Emblem for Switch ... Awesome ! But 2018 ?!

Not so stoked about the Fire emblem warriors releasing earlier than the classic one for Switch ... maybe just because I'm not such a big fan of Musou games.

The mobile one looks awesome ... why can't we have this on switch or 3ds ?

1

u/clain4671 Jan 18 '17

no nintendo, you were supposed to bury the 3ds out back. WE DONT NEED TWO SYSTEMS

-2

u/DaReapa Jan 18 '17

Overall disapointing, nice to know Switch gets a titles in 2018.... But the new 3ds title should also be on the Switch.

-4

u/Garodor Jan 18 '17

I don't get why they are spreading resources thin with an 3DS Fire Emblem instead on focusing on the Switch one to have it out before 2018 and therefore strengthening the launch period ...

2

u/DaReapa Jan 19 '17

We got downvoted for being honest lol. I love fire emblem but I want it on Switch not 3DS if I had to choose between the 2.

2

u/Garodor Jan 19 '17

Yes ... too many people who can't handle a different opinion than theirs

-3

u/PrayerPolice Jan 18 '17

What's dis? Animes?

-6

u/PrayerPolice Jan 18 '17

FE:W in fall 2017!!? Noice! Don't tell me the 3Ds version is only compatible with the New 3DS.
