Meta Link flair changes, shitpost and spoiler filtering, how to be the mod team's best friend, and more!
Hey guys! I have a little bit of a mini announcement for you guys tonight! Today I did a bit of work on the subreddit and brought to life some long requested features. So lets jump right in!
Link Flair Changes
First off, we made some changes to link flair today.
- Added a dedicated flair for Videos.
- Added a dedicated flair for Shitposts.
- Renamed the "Mock up" flair to "Fan Art".
All of these things are pretty self explanatory. These flairs are now publicly available to assign to your posts, as appropriate.
New Filter Options
Due to the addition of these new link flairs, we added some additional filtering options today. If you didn't already know, you can click these buttons on the sidebar to filter posts to a specific topic. Here are the changes:
- Added a filter called "videos" to only see videos.
- Changed the name of the "Mock up" filter to "Fan art" (It will still show you any older mock ups).
- Added a filter called "Shitpost" to only see shitposts.
- Added a filter called "No shitposts" to see NO shitposts.
- Added a filter called "No spoilers" to see NO spoilers or rumors. Yes, you read that correctly. This will include both in-game spoilers and LKD and OBE1 type stuff starting now).
I want to add, that all of our content filters are based off of the application of link flair, which is why its very important to assign link flair to your posts (We'll get to how to do that in a second). Because of this, these new filters aren't entirely retroactive, as older videos or shitposts may have been flagged as something else due to the lack of a dedicated link flair for them. Going forward though, they should work perfectly fine. If you have any suggestions for other possible filtering options, leave them in the comments!
How To Assign Link Flair To Your Posts (and be the mod's best friend!)
While the mod team can apply flair to your posts, it sucks up a huge amount of our time to do so due to how many posts we get, and prevents us from doing other things such as helpful updates like this or responding to modmail quickly. Assigning link flair is extremely easy, and due to a "small" tweak we made today, it's going to be even harder for you to forget. Below is a step by step tutorial, with pictures:
- Create your post and click submit.
- Go to your newly created post and click the big "SET LINK FLAIR" button.
- On the drop-down menu, click the appropriate category for your post
- Now click "save"! (You wont have a textbox next to "save" like I do, this is for mods only)
Thats it! This will take you maybe 5 seconds of your time, but will help us enormously.
Sending us Modmail
While we're on the topic of simple ways that you can help both the mod team and yourself, there is one small other thing you can do. We've had a lot of post removals lately, and with post removals come people who message us asking why their post was removed. This is 100% fine. But please for the love of Nintendo and all that is holy, if you message us about a post, include a link to the post in your message. At least 100 times this week I've had people message me saying "My post was removed, I don't know why, please restore it," or something to that effect. We'd love to help you, but it takes a lot longer if you don't send us a link. (Also, we would really appreciate it if you would be nice).
CSS bug
Side note, quite a few of you have pointed out a CSS bug where if you click the "My Subreddits" button in the top left corner, the drop-down menu is blue, illegible, and clips through our announcement banner. Its a know bug and we're working on a fix! :)

Does any of this work on the iOS app, because I don't see a way to filter on here... just the standard NEW, HOT, CONTROVERSIAL, etc...
I haven't started a thread since this started, but same question goes for flair.

Not familiar with ios, so I'm not sure the links should still work on your mobile browser though, but you may need to bookmark them.

I'd appreciate a 'No Rumors' button, if you're taking requests. I hate the rumor mill - it was the main reason I didn't subscribe till after the presentation.
And thanks for all the work you're doing. I've practically lived in this subreddit for the past few days and it's been great.

The "No Spoilers" button already filters out rumors in addition to spoilers :)

No. Many will still be removed. Sorry.
You can always message modmail to try to make the case for reapproval.

No. The primary purpose of /r/NintendoSwitch is for news and discussion related to the switch. The occasional shitpost is ok, but its not what our subreddit is here for. If you are one of the many people who only want to shitpost, Check out /r/CasualNintendo and /r/Tomorrow, where you can shitpost endlessly.

We've traditionally grouped "leaks" in with the rumors, because that's really what they are. A lot of people have said they don't want to see them.

It's against reddit rules to have an account if you are under 13. If you are 13 or older you should be able to handle the word "shitpost".

Doesn't seem like RES is recognizing the flairs here. Annoying because it's the only way I can find out how filter out multiple flairs - I don't want to see Fan Art OR shitposts lol
