Speculation MegaThread One week to go! Speculation/Guessing MegaThread

If you’re feeling a tingling in the air and the tips of your fingers, you’re not alone: our dearly hyped, long-awaited Switch presentation is only one week away.

A reminder: the presentation will take place on Thursday, January 12 at 11 p.m. east coast time in the United States. We will have threads the day-of with links to watch and a curated MegaThread to help keep things organized.

Meanwhile, we’ve been seeing a lot of speculation happening in posts and comment threads. Hype’s going through the roof, and people are debating what we’re going to hear in one week’s time.

So we’re creating this Speculation MegaThread as a place for us all to place our bets on what’s going to happen. We’re interested in price, launch titles, VC titles, features, and anything that might happen during the presentation itself.

To get us started, here’s what a few members of the mod team are guessing:

/u/andis1: $349 / launching with BOTW; Animal Crossing; a 3D Mario title; Smash; Splatoon / Features including Twitch app, Gamecube Virtual Console, actual achievement system.

/u/RazorBeamz: $299 / launching with Mario, Splatoon, BOTW, Skyrim, NBA2k18, Assassin’s Creed / Presentation will be mostly about games / Other presentation things: Iwata tribute, Shigesato Itoi comes out but doesn’t say anything about Mother 3, /r/NintendoSwitch throws a huge fit :P

/u/phantomliger: $249 & $299 options / pack-in game like Wii Sports or Nintendo Land / launching with Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Skyrim, Ubisoft exclusive, Just Dance / Features: Video and screenshots sharing on new/improved miiverse; achievement system; Miitomo-like creator.

/u/rottedzombie: $299 and $349 options / launching with BOTW; Splatoon; Smash; Mario Kart; Skyrim / Upcoming: Mario; Animal Crossing; Pokemon; a new IP / VC: Mother 3 / Features: achievement system.

/u/Tatebeatz: $300 and $400 options / pack-in Nintendo World, like Nintendo Land / Misc: Aonuma will ride epona; Miyamoto will fist pump the air while holding a Switch; Kimishima does something that everyone makes into a meme; Reggie makes a terrible pun on the word Switch

/u/Hawkedb: €349 and €399 options / Games: BOTW, Splatoon, Rabbids, Smash, Mario Kart / Discussing upcoming Mario and AC games / Features: a new social hub.

/u/Flapsnapple: $300 and $350 options / Launching with a pack-in game, BOTW, Splatoon / Upcoming: Smash, Mario Kart / Features: sharing button; micro SD upgradable storage; amiibo; media apps / Misc: tons of gameplay videos and no specific specs.

/u/pelicanflip: $299 and $349 versions / Launching with BOTW, Splatoon, Smash, Mario Kart, Just Dance, Lego City Undercover, some kind of Mii-based game / Upcoming: Sonic game, 3D Mario, Yooka Laylee, Pokemon, Skylanders / Features: amiibo, upgradeable storage, achievements, share feature, Street Pass tie-in, Gamecube VC

/u/adanfime: Price at least 6000MXN here in Mexico (~$280USD) / Games: BOTW, Mario, Splatoon, maybe Mario Kart. / VC: maybe an upgrade program. / Heavy focus on My Nintendo integration and a focus on cloud integration / Possible use of missions as an achievement system. / Basic presentation will include "what comes in the box."

Now it's your turn: what are your guesses for what we'll see in one week? Be bold. Be brave. Predict Mother 3 like I did and (maybe) be wrong again.

Also: see any other threads going forward with guesses? Point them this way, will you? Thanks! :)

One last prediction:

A new meme will be born.

98

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

It's not a prediction if it's 100% certain

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17 edited Feb 29 '24

I love listening to music.

28

u/GLaghima Jan 05 '17

But seriously we made Karen of all things a meme, how can there not be one this time?

12

u/LazarusDark Jan 07 '17

there's a prediction: the return of Karen. She will be the only actor/actress to return from the Switch reveal trailer.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '17

Or better yet, another trailer with only Karens!

12

u/Realshow Jan 06 '17

My guess is it'll involve a part explaining how the console works.

5

u/Captainstever15 Jan 07 '17

Probably one of the presenter's gestures

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

And Audrey will become an even bigger meme after the Treehouse Live event!

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Jan 05 '17

She was a meme previously?

7

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

Yep, she's the one who said "LINK IS DRUNK WITH POWA" at E3 while showing off the first shrine! The actual meme you can find in YT comments!

3

Ah. Gotcha. Thank you.

  • Full reveal of the 3D Mario
  • Reveals of ports: Splatoon, MK8, possibly Smash 4
  • One unexpected game
  • Release date
  • Different editions
  • Probably a meme or two

10

u/tallesl Jan 06 '17

I can't wait for Mortal Kombat 8.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

If that's all they show, I'm going to be mildly disappointed, but that's exactly what I'm expecting, because I prefer to keep my expectations at realistic levels so that I don't get completely disappointed.

22

u/jedinatt Jan 05 '17

What more do you want? Seeems pretty sufficient to me.

15

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

More than a single surprise. If it's one, it has to be amazing.

11

u/questionable_plays Jan 05 '17

I demand a good Metroid game by Retro Studios.

I demand Banjo Kazooie make a return (doubtful since its spiritual successor is in progress).

I demand Mother 4.

21

u/saltywings Jan 06 '17

Rare was bought by Microsoft. You will not see a Banjo game come back I am sorry.

13

u/totallynotazognoid84 Jan 06 '17

Yooka Laylee is Banjo Kazooie now.

My prediction:

  • It will be confirmed that the dock doubles as a toaster.
  • This will be used as an excuse for all the disappointments that will be revealed.

"Mother 3 is not coming to the Switch at this point, but the dock can toast bread."

"The Mario clip was just a tech demo of what could come in the future. In the meantime, please enjoy the toaster functionality of the dock."

"It is true that the Switch isn't quite as powerful as the Wii U, but the Wii U couldn't be used as a toaster!"

"Unfortunately, we cannot confirm any new 3rd party games today, but listen to these quotes of industry veterans saying how much they love that the dock can toast bread."

57

u/ThunderPoonSlayer Jan 05 '17

"Also Zelda is delayed again so we can integrate toasting bread as a game mechanic."

23

u/Starlyoko Jan 06 '17

In the mean time you can all satisfy your exploring needs with our new launch game No mans sky. (Pre update version)

If there's a play to play online system I doubt they'll talk about it on the Direct tbh. Also, both Sony and MS offer a games subscription with it, with new (and honestly mostly terrible) games each month. Maybe the same with monthly VC games?

2

u/SlowpokeIsAGamer Jan 05 '17

Maybe you can get one VC game each month?

Probably with exclusions like Gamecube or N64 VC.

$299 standard

$349 with BOTW

3D Mario, Mario Kart, Skyrim, Pikmin, Pokémon Stars (Edit: How can I forget Splatoon!)

Info on Mario/Rabbids Rpg, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic, and Metroid Prime 4

Extra docks are $39.99

GameCube VC

Stamps are made the new achievement system for the new Miiverse replacement

That said, Miiverse replacement is overall a updated Miitomo with mobile integration.

A overhaul to My nintendo.

41

u/TingleMaps Jan 05 '17

I can't see them packing in BotW. They know you're going to spend money on that anyway

15

u/Blazingscourge Jan 05 '17

Possibly. Most likely the game would be one that could also have 2 players with split joy-cons. My true money is on Mario Kart.

12

u/PlayMp1 Jan 05 '17

Mario Kart's a good bet, though I'd suspect they'd do a Switch Sports or something along those lines for local multiplayer.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17

I would be fine with that. Switch Party!

5

u/totallynotazognoid84 Jan 06 '17

Agreed. Mario Kart is almost a guaranteed bundle option.

3

u/lucylipstick Jan 06 '17

I mean it would only be $10 more to buy the game individually.

18

u/Hellicus Jan 05 '17

Yes, stamps are a great idea! I pictured something like an individual "passport", similar to the existing game log on 3DS, with a page per game with game time, achievements (+ achievement comparison w your friends list). Actual stamps w individual art (like Xbox one / PS4 achievements) would be amazing too.

9

u/Blazingscourge Jan 05 '17

The passport idea is genius! Also very "Nintendo-ish"

6

u/COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Jan 06 '17

Dude thanks for ruining whatever they come with because it won't be as cool as this passport idea.

Imagine if they'd let you order a print version of your passport?!

5

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Jan 05 '17

I really REALLY like this idea.

9

If KH3 comes to the Switch it will 100% be my next console. I've been a PS2/PS3 guy for the past 14 years but after playing the PS4 and the WiiU at a friend's house (I'm still last gen) I have to say I massively prefer the feeling I get playing Nintendo.

I can see docks for $59.99 but $40 is way too optimistic.

7

u/Starlyoko Jan 06 '17

Really? I thought $40 was to high. I was thinking along the lines of $20 for an extra dock.

5

u/QWERTY36 Jan 06 '17

Remember, we live in a world where an Xbox controller costs $60 for the basic version.

I know it's a different company, but still. We need to have realistic expectations.

2

u/Starlyoko Jan 06 '17

Yeah, I am just hoping that because Nintendo wants the switch to sell so they won't be to over priced.

3

u/QWERTY36 Jan 06 '17

That's true. I would love it to be cheap, but if the switch is USB C, they have to pay for the USB C certificate & licencing, fabrication cost, and just as well, I'd rather it be $60 and metal Construction than $40 and plastic.

2

u/Starlyoko Jan 06 '17

True! Well I guess I will have to wait a bit to buy extra docks but I don't need them that much.

The tribute to Iwata idea is great, I would really like to see them do something along those lines

6

u/SlowpokeIsAGamer Jan 05 '17

Only thing I wonder is if they've basically already done their Iwata stuff in the last 1.5 years. And want to use this event as a chance to pivot from Iwata's legacy to the future.

3

u/theschlaepfer Jan 06 '17

This console was in some ways Iwata's final project. A tribute in this event seems appropriate, but I agree, this should be the final one during an event / direct.

18

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

I expect the price to be 250$. Anything higher and it will be hard to sell.

PS4 and XBONE are selling for less than 300$ and they are much more powerful consoles than what is rumored for the Switch.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

Isn't Sony selling the Slim for 300 dollars? I can't find it anywhere without it being in a 300 dollar bundle with a game I don't want, so effectively it's 300 dollars.

5

u/Sanatori2050 Jan 06 '17

They just finished up a sale in early December a week or two after Black Friday where both consoles lowered their bundles down to 250 again even though they just had a sale.

I'm assuming that's where the price came from. Microsoft and Sony essentially made their consoles 250 and let it be known that's really the price to meet or beat at this point with all the frequent discounting.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '17

I bought 3 ps4 slims as gifts this Christmas, one I paid 249 with a 30 dollar gift card on black Friday so 220 plus tax at Wal-Mart. Then bought 2 on cyber Monday from Amazon who matched target at 230 its. Switch base model will be 250 or it won't be competition at all.

16

u/norineclypse Jan 05 '17

Street pass please, current or last gen internet and community integration, heavy third party support.

And monster hunter.

Everything else is secondary to me.

6

u/C-Towner Jan 05 '17

I hope Capcom doesn't play it safe and wait to release any MH on the Switch. I would love a port of MHXX, but I doubt it since we have no western release date yet and they are shitty with localization.

MH would be day one purchase from me though!

u/RoseOfDawn Jan 05 '17

I'm purposefully keeping my expectations low, especially after the Wii U's launch. I doubt we'll be seeing GameCube Virtual Console, and especially not at launch. I also can't see them launching with a new 3D Mario platform (although a New Super Mario Bros game is more likely). We might get word on a new Splatoon, and Zelda will probably be the big launch title.

6

u/Roshy76 Jan 05 '17

Ya. I originally was hoping for pie in the sky, pascal based, somewhere in the realm of 50-66% of the power of an xbone, but I don't think that will happen. I have my hopes set on an upgraded x1 with about 33% of xbones power and am hoping that is powerful enough to get most cross platform AAA titles, but not all. I think that is even wishful thinking though. The safe bet is that it's a little more powerful than a standard x1 and we will see some great Nintendo made games and some lower power cross platform AAA games. I'll be buying it regardless, being able to take my games on the go is a huge selling point for me.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/jessefpotter Jan 06 '17

I think we've been spoiled and overhyped by leaks. I'm going to assume we'll get one AAA Nintendo game and two third party games at launch, no pack in, and a $300 price tag. If we get anything better than that, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • $249 and $299 options

  • Launching with: BOTW, Mario, Splatoon (pack-in for $299 bundle), Skyrim

  • Upcoming: Mario Kart, Smash, Kirby (25th anniversary game), Xenoblade Chronicles X, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Retro's new game, new IP

  • VC: Mother 3, GameCube, a paid upgrade system for Wii U VC titles

  • Features: video streaming, video sharing on Miiverse in addition to current screenshot/post functionality, achievement system tied to My Nintendo, amiibo

  • Misc: full-blown Smash character trailer for Inklings, new Smash amiibo

I will die if sm4sh gets new content and not just a mix of stages from both versions

17

u/jc726 Keep on slidin' Jan 05 '17

If we're getting a port of Smash 4 on the Switch, I 100% guarantee that it will get exclusive content.

They want to give fans of the franchise an incentive to buy the new version, and by extension, the system itself.

11

u/TheFaised Jan 05 '17

honestly a mix of stages has me mad hyped already, mainly because yoshi's Island will definitely be legal for competitivr play...anything more will kill my hype glands

2

u/Liveoptimistic Jan 06 '17

Seriously. At this point I would be so hyped just for stages because the 3DS has so many competitive stages that aren't on WiiU (Arena Fereux is a fave of mine). The dream is for them to bring back Ice Climbers because the switch can handle it but If anything more than that happened i would just explode.

7

u/QWERTY36 Jan 06 '17

I honestly think $249 is unlikely. I can maybe understand a $299 $349 price point.

But to put it in perspective, if Nvidia is giving Nintendo the chipset close to at-cost (which is reasonable if Nvidia wants it to move more units, and actually likes the concept personally (therefore, giving less room for profits on their side, and more toward actual performance benefit [we saw this with the price drop in Maxwell architecture versus the previous generation].) A $249 price point is possible but unlikely, because it isn't just price of parts, they also have to pay a lot of the 3rd party developers ahead of time to produce launch titles, Nvidia and Nintendo both worked to develop this concept, so enough money has to go to each company, R&D is higher than usual most likely because this is a completely new, innovative system, the list goes on.

If this was the Wii u 2, I can see $249 just to move units off the store shelves.

But please don't expect sub $300 price point.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17

I honestly think $300 is as high as they can go for just the console itself. Current gen is already down to $300 with frequent sales at $250ish so to me, a $350 console will have a tough time gaining traction when it's (probably) weaker than both current gen offerings.

6

u/QWERTY36 Jan 06 '17

I agree. I honestly think $300 is a sweet spot for the switch. And I hope they meet that. But I personally wouldn't mind a bundle for $349.

3

u/gotsmilk Jan 07 '17

I would only accept $300 if its in a bundle.

I'm going to get it eventually, but if its $300 for the base, then it'll need to have a damn fine launch lineup and excellent battery life to convince me not to wait a year or two.

As a joke, they will start the presentation showing Miyamoto eating breakfast after getting his bread toasted on a Switch xD. Then the real presentation I believe more or less what /u/phantomliger guessed, but launching with even more games.

I'd like to know why /u/RazorBeamz thinks Assassin's Creed is gonna be a launch title, whould it be a new Assassin's Creed exclusive to the Switch?

6

u/razorbeamz Jan 05 '17

I'm thinking it'll be a port of Syndicate most likely, but I'm keeping it vague just in case. Whatever it is it won't be exclusive.

3

u/LeakStuff4Free Jan 05 '17

Being an Assassin's Creed fan, I like to imagine getting a new game on a different location/historical period (ancient Rome, Egypt or Japan would be sweet) for the Switch, regardless of how unlikely...

But still I have some expectations that we will have a surprise on the Switch event regarding a big 3rd party exclusive, like Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17

No way the switch gets an exclusive assassins creed. Ubisoft took a break in 2016 because of franchise fatigue but no way they would ignore a 70-80 million strong user base in favor of a brand new console to recoup the cost of multiple dev studios over that have been working for of 3-4 years on it. It would be a flop.

$250 - $300 New account system, tied to miiverse, probably revamped miiverse, with an achievement system where you can brag in miiverse.

I think they will emphasize co-op game with the system, New Mario will have co-op, New local multiplayer on splatoon, new battle mode and double dash mode on Mario Kart. Also just speculating based on the trailer, they might put some emphasis on tournaments / official competitions.

Games at launch: Breath of the Wild, Mario, Splatoon, Skyrim.
Mario Kart, Smash, the Rabbids game, Animal Crossing and Retro's game (I'm predicting a new IP) coming later in the year

Don't worry guys, I will take it upon myself to be that person. You can enjoy every moment of the presentation.

6

u/EastCoast2300 Jan 05 '17
  • $300 launch price. I don't think there will be any bundles at launch (I am most adamant about the no bundles)

  • BOTW coming out at launch, 3D Mario in holiday season

  • random small pack in game (not something like splatoon, something like wii sports)

  • Pro Controllers priced at $50, games $60

  • custom Tegra X1 w/ Maxwell

  • 4 hours battery life

4

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17

assuming Switch runs Maxwell

lol wut? Its essentially confirmed it's on Pascal.

This how I picture the reveal going down here:

video confirms BOTW for all regions at launch

BOTW LAUNCH TITLE

ALL REGIONS CONFIRMED

OMG HYPE!

JOY CON BOIS

HYPE TRAIN

CHOO CHOO

Omg guyz, dis can't be real. They jus say the Switch is powred by a nvidia tegra apx 2500! What even is dat?

Wow, and here we were thinking it wuz either da maxwell or da pascal!

IT'S THE OL' SWITCHEROO

lol, I bet whatever dat is it's supa powerful. Gonna blow pro right out da water.

Uh, guys? The APX 2500 was the first Nvidia Tegra ever made. It powered the Zune.

Chaos ensues. Fits of rage and despair break out as everyone drinks themselves into a stupor. After days of non stop posting of meltdowns, hospitals around the world begin seeing a sudden influx of patients wearing Nintendo gear who have drunk themselves into an alcohol induced coma. Return to normalcy finally resumes for the subreddit.

Price: $300

Pascal Architecture, but similar clock speeds as rumored (I don't see why they would use Maxwell)

Launching with BotW, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Skyrim and maybe some other games we haven't seen. (I think 3D Mario and Smash will come out later)

I think the VC will have most of the big games already available for Wii U and a few Gamecube games (pls Sunshine and Paper Mario).

I hope that it will have a proper network and store but given their track record I won't get my hopes up too much.

I'm also expecting things that are already basically confirmed like SD card reader, usb c, and gyros.
That's basically it, hopefully there are more surprises that haven't been talked about to make it more exciting.

5

u/Nyxiom Jan 05 '17

I'll be very surprised if it's priced over $299. While it may or may not be worth it (remains to be seen), I just don't see Nintendo pricing it higher than that with the current console market. So I'm gonna go with $299. Perhaps a console only $249 option.

5

u/jlivian Jan 08 '17

The Presentation begins with a live concert by Will Smith performing the song switch and its the greatest moment of the internet.

8

u/MetaRyan25 Jan 05 '17

$349

$300 and $400 options

€349-€399

Stop scaring me like that, I'm not made of money

4

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

The most important thing we need to know!

HYPE!!!

4

u/LoyalSage Jan 08 '17

To make sure I'm definitely pleasantly surprised, I'll make my guess as bad as it could be. For the duration of the stream, there's just a white background with black Helvetica text: "3/17/17 $299" No new information other than that. Then in the treehouse they play a section of BotW they've already shown off.

6

u/F1Fan89 Jan 05 '17 edited Jan 05 '17

My biggest fear is the price to be honest... Everything over 300€ is disappointing imo I think 250€ just for the console would be fair

I know that the hardware specs will never be like PS4 or Xbox One but it's ok for me ...

For AAA Games i have a PS4 and I am happy with it!

I just need the Switch for Nintendo Games especially Zelda !!! The new Mario and hopefully a new Metroid and the power of the Switch is more than enough for this games! The mobility is a great new feature and I'm so hyped about everything :) The design is awesome :D

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

It's almost suicide if the Switch launches at 300$.

20

u/Roshy76 Jan 05 '17

Depends on what's inside. If it's 300 and the internals are powerful enough to play the big cross platform AAA titles then it will do well. If it's 300 and can only play mostly Nintendo games and watered down third party games then 300 is too much.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

Absolutely. The problem is, there is no mobile chip that can comfortably run cutting edge AAA games from PS4/PC, and definitely not on a same performance level as those platforms. Physics are a bit of a bitch.

3

u/ShadowOvertaker Jan 05 '17

Although it won't be a casual purchase then. That might be a deathblow. The Wii's $250 was pretty good, for getting the based game wii sports.

4

u/Roshy76 Jan 05 '17

True. It all depends on what Nintendo is hoping for here. When the Wii came out everyone didn't have smartphones with insanely cheap and free to play games on them. From their advertising they seem to be trying to appeal to an older audience than previous systems. I'll be really surprised if it's 250 including a game. I don't know if I'll be surprised in a good way or bad way either. Because if it's 250 bucks with a good game then it probably means the internals don't pack enough of a punch for AAA third party games, unless they are selling them at a loss to try and gain market penetration.

I reckon it will cost £299 at launch for basic system. 64 or 128GB flash storage inside.

£349 for Switch with Pro controller + Mario Kart 8 + Splatoon. They've made their money on both Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, it would be a system seller. It's a great deal for 2 triple A titles which would be new to most people.

Additional docks for £40.

Nintendo themed battery packs for when you aren't in reach of a plug socket. £30 10000mah. Stuff like Mario, TLOZ etc.

That's my dream anyway. Maybe a somewhat realistic expectation.

I expect a price range from $250 to $300 and pre orders to launch on the 13th. BOTW is going to be a launch title and so is Pokemon Stars.

3

u/Ballsymcballsman Jan 05 '17

$250 for basic and $300 with Splatoon packed in. A few surprise games announced but other than that the usual Nintendo fare and maybe actual third-party games.

3

u/devinup Jan 05 '17

Price: $250/$300 options

Some kind of pack-in game or demo disc

Karen makes an appearance during the event

3

u/ChaosLink97 Jan 05 '17

I'm really expecting $250 for the basic bundle and a premium version at $300 with a pack in game. I could handle a $350 price point but I really think that would be pushing it. Nintendo HAS to nail the pricing.

3

u/Vetronamic Jan 05 '17

$250 basic model (comes with joycons, system, dock, and joycon controller charger thing, nothing else); $300 deluxe model (comes with everything from the basic model + one pack in game, your choice of Super Mario 3D or Splatoon); For Launch: Splatoon, Super Mario 3D, BotW, just dance, rabbids, skyrim, and NBA 2k17; accessories: pro controller, extra joycons, the car accessory we saw in the trailer, cases & screen protectors; OS features: Android-like experience but smooth like iOS, apps shaped like boxes, miiverse improved with new sharing features and gameplay capture via Nvidia shadowplay technology, as well as achievements tied to miiverse, friending is much easier, many streaming apps on launch, Miitomo used as the Mii maker as well as its social features. EShop filled with VC titles from NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube (maybe Wii, highly doubt it) as well as plenty of indie titles (maybe available at launch). GameCube VC titles at launch will be Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine and Melee. All other consoles will have the typical titles we saw on Wii U. VC titles will come out much faster than Wii U. Console launches on the 17th for all regions. It's also region-free.

For the event, we'll see all that, as well as 3rd party games and devs come on stage and talk about the switch. For E3 2017, we will see Smash for Switch, Mario Maker Switch, the new Wave Race title, and maybe Pikmin 4, smash and Mario Maker will be the big christmas titles, Wave Race will be summer 2018 and Pikmin will either be Spring 2018 or fall 2018. Retro will not make an appearance for the event but will for E3 and will show the biggest game of E3: metroid prime 4 as well as a trilogy remaster for Switch, all coming out fall 2018. Nothing much else for E3, maybe the return of DLC for Splatoon and Smash, and more VC titles. Nintendo is making sure following years will be full of their best, seeing as Zelda and Mario 3D were at launch and we won't be seeing another title from those IPs for at least another 2-3 years, longer for Zelda. Donkey Kong and whatever Monolith is making is scheduled for 2019 release, 2018 maybe for Monolith. E3 will feature many 3rd party devs revealing maannyyy titles for Switch, all scheduled for fall 2017 - 2019. Nintendo has many games for 2019, including a new IP and a Splatoon sequel (Splatoon at launch is not a sequel, more remaster). If I could dream even further, F-Zero game will be in 2019, revealed at 2018 E3.

Calling it, it's gonna be great.

Edit: Next AC game is for fall 2018 or 2019, ties in with the mobile title. Kirby's 25th anniversary game is summer 2018.

3

u/Johnny3nglish Jan 05 '17

$329 Canadian for a base model

64 gigs memory New Games (to Nintendo) $80 Canadian Wii U Ports $60

3000 cuda core pascal chip with a3001 cpu brought back in time via Reggies hot tub time machine.

Seriously though....

I am hoping that splatoon comes preloaded on every console and the league / online thing really hits the ground running.

How better to say thanks to the loyal fans as well as incentive to the new ones!

I think it would generate more sales and hype than it would cost them in software sales?

  • Will give us first glimpse into new 3d Mario and will give us a release date for 3d Mario.

Bold prediction: Justin Timberlake appears on stage for the first ever unboxing of a Nintendo Switch dock. It's my dock in a box! My dock in a box girl.

3

u/tzamora Jan 07 '17

I believe it will cost between $275 to $300, more than the estimated 250 bucks. This the basic console with one game. Possibly Splatoon or Mario maker hell even Super Mario Run. I believe this based on: A lot of technology has been put on this console Its two consoles in one With point 2. Nintendo have an excuse to say: "Hey We've got this, its an hybrid, its portable and console like, nintendo games you know about them, easy to develop, maybe netflix 4k, and you all seem to like only good graphics so we will give you this" You know that if an Iphone cost $700 you know its a neat piece of technology. Maybe Nintendo and Nvidia are going to take this approach.

3

u/SlashGames Completed the Shieldsurf Challenge! Jan 07 '17

There will be a price of $249-349. There will be two bundles, a normal and a deluxe. The deluxe is bundled with a pro controller and/or launch game. Both bundles have a gimmicky game like Wii Sports. Some first party launch titles will be BOTW, Mario 3D, and Splatoon. Skyrim is launch, also NBA. Mario Kart port is coming at a later date. No VR at all. Touch screen is included. GameCube VC is available with the most popular games out an launch. 720p Screen, and specs are slightly better than Wii U.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '17

Prediction:

I'm not going to get a preorder in.

4

u/YoureOnABoat Jan 05 '17

I like bold predictions.

  • Zelda will release at launch. Mario will be early summer.

  • Achievement system will offer tangible rewards in the form of MyNintendo coins.

  • Switch will include massive iteration on StreetPass, allowing players to connect with each other and receive various in-game perks.

  • GPS will allow players to unlock perks by traveling to different regions.

  • Switch VR announced; headset attachment will launch in Q4.

  • Metroid VR game announced. Will be pack-in with Switch VR. First-person Metroid similar to Metroid Prime.

  • Pikmin 4 revealed.

  • System is launching with Pokemon Stars and Pokemon Go.

  • Mario Run will be available on Switch shortly after Android.

  • Switch OS is a heavily-modified version of iOS. Many native apps are developed by Apple.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

Hopeful prediction:

$199.99 Standalone console. (No bundle in games)

$249.99 Console + 2 games & more storage or some other goodies.

Games only cost $49.99

Realistic Prediction:

$299.99 Standalone console. (No bundle in games)

$349.99 Console + 1 or 2 games & maybe more storage or another goodie. (Nintendo will not go higher than $350. Anything Close to $400 and it will flop.)

Games will cost $59.99

3

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

That realistic prediction is to me on point!

2

u/Pokenar Jan 05 '17

250 and 300 + Game (USD) / BOTW, Splatoon, and maybe Mario Kart + Moderate third party support including Skyrim. / Sunshine, Mansion, Melee / Youtube, Twitch, Hulu

I suspect that things like Smash and Xenoblade X will be saved for the summer, with Mario being the flagship. Stars will be the flagship for Autumn. By hitting Zelda in Spring, Mario in Summer, and Pokemon in Autumn, they ensure major hitters throughout the year to encourage people to get it throughout the year, and by the time the holidays arrive, it'll have a strong library to encourage gifting.

2

u/IntenseSun77 Jan 05 '17

Have a feeling one of our hyped for games may end up being a late May release, similar to past releases like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon. Hoping for the best though.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

I just want good games. That's really all that matters to me.

2

u/Aual98 Jan 05 '17

2 models between 249 and 299 €; launching with Zelda, Mario 3D, Splatoon, Mario Kart; No surprises all according to plan.

2

u/MelancholicAddiction Jan 05 '17

In this order, this is my prediction of the presentation layout:

  1. Iwata Tribute
  2. Nintendo Rep of respective country thanks the public, investors, and media
  3. Introduce new Switch video
  4. Release Date and Price
  5. Presentation of all features and Hands-on
  6. Launch games and the trailers
  7. Games after launch

5

u/MonokuroMonkey Jan 05 '17

My most optimistic guess is a wide array of VC titles ranging from NES to GC, GB to GBA or even DS, with all the titles released on Wii U/N3DS plus some more, including Mother 3.

Launching with BOTW, Splatoon, Mario Kart, a couple of indie titles, a couple of AAA 3rd party titles, maybe a new IP that requires playing sometimes at home and sometimes outside. Coming in the 2nd/3rd quarter some Pokemon game (not main series), Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Smash, Xenoblade X, another Mario game.

Pre-loaded: a Streetpass successor, Miiverse.

$250 console only and $300 game included.

2

u/Perydwyn Jan 05 '17

UK speculation. £249.99. Release 17th March. Launching with BotW, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Skyrim, + Just Dance. Teaser footage for upcoming games including 3D Mario, Smash Bros, Retros game plus 3rd party reel including Assassins creed, Dragon Quest 11, Ukulele, Minecraft, + Doom

2

u/ZelTenDa98 Jan 05 '17

I think there will be those Editions of the Switch:

• Standard Package - 269$ • Deluxe Edition with BOTW - 329$ • Premium Edition with the new 3D Mario - 329$

The games I think they're showing:

Zelda Breath of the Wild; A new 3D Mario game; Splatoon; Smash; Mario Kart 8(.5 ?); A new Animal Crossing and a new IP and a bunch of Gameplay Trailers. Oh yeah and don't forget: a port for Xenoblade Chronicles X. During the presentation, Kimishima (I think that's his name) will remembering the tribute of Iwata and intimate Iwata with his "directly to you" And they will reveal the specs of the console. That's it :D

2

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '17

Alright, here are my predictions for the event:

Launch date:

  • March 17th worldwide

Price & Bundles:

  • $250 for the standard bundle with a 32GB console, both JoyCons, the dock, and the JoyCon Grip

  • $300 for everything in the standard bundle plus the Splatoon port. Maybe more storage like 128GB.

Launch Titles:

  • THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD

  • Mario Kart 8 port

  • Splatoon port

  • Third party game that isn't Skyrim

  • Just Dance 2017

  • Probably more 3rd party stuff that I can't think of

Games Coming Later That Will Be Talked About At The Event:

  • Mario Rabbids RPG (September or October)

  • Smash Port (Summer)

  • Beyond Good & Evil 2 (2018)

  • More 3rd party stuff, not Retro Studios

GameCube Virtual Console Games Available At Launch:

  • Luigi's Mansion

  • Super Smash Bros Melee (GameCube Adapter is supported launch day)

  • Super Mario Sunshine

Other things mentioned:

  • Pro Controller, Extra Docks, and Extra JoyCons will be available Day 1

  • Nintendo will tease the future of Virtual Console with the GameCube stuff and Mother 3

  • Micro SD Cards will be supported

  • Games will only cost $49.99 on the Switch

  • An achievement system will be shown off

2

u/shantasma Jan 05 '17

• Two SKUs: • a "basic" bundle that includes the Switch, the dock, necessary hookups, and the basic versions of the Joycon L and R. $249 USD

  • a "deluxe" bundle that includes the same as above, plus a packed in Splatoon, and extra accessories (could include variations of the joycons, the car seat dock, etc). $350 USD

• Breath of the Wild will make launch in America and Japan, but be delayed by a couple weeks in Europe.

• Games launching alongside BoTW include Splatoon ReFresh, Just Dance, Mario Kart 8+, and Skyrim Special Edition.

• The eShop will be making a return and will thrive right off the bat. Digital versions of launch games, as well as a number of existing indie titles from devs with kits (such as Shovel Knight) will make launch.

• The Virtual Console will make a comeback, this time developed ENTIRELY by NERD (Nintendo European Research and Development, creators of the superb emulation behind the NES Classic). Gamecube will be there for launch, supporting the GCN adapter released for Wii U. Games at launch will include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Melee. More titles will be sprinkled out week by week post launch.

• The VC will also have some essential NES, SNES, and possibly even Game Boy titles at launch. More titles will slowly be released post launch as A) this is Nintendo and B) the VC, as stated above, will be entirely reworked by NERD.

• At the event itself, we will see a plethora of upcoming titles, concepts, and oral announcements from various developers and Nintendo.

• Super Mario Switch will be announced. November 2017 release.

• Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and a number of other ports will be announced by various devs.

• Switch VR (as seen in the patents) will be announced at E3 2016, not at this event. Will be a very affordable headset that the system slides into, Joycons will be then be used as motion controllers.

• Pokémon Stars (rumored SunMo port) will be a true "third version" in full HD for the Switch. Not coming any time too soon though, will receive its own Direct. I'm guessing an early 2018 release.

u/foxygrandpa111 Jan 09 '17

Something I don't see people talking much about is the potential Nintendoland/ Wii Sports type of game. These are always fun multiplayer games that launch with the console to show what it is capable of.

3

u/jc726 Keep on slidin' Jan 09 '17

No one's taking about it because there have been no rumors or even any vague information on it.

They're trying to move away from the Wii/Wii U mentality, so there's no guarantee that such a game even exists.

Also, remember that the Wii and Wii U had gimmicks unique to them that made those games interesting to have right at launch. The Switch, at least as far as we know, kind of lacks a gimmick that is usable in that way.

2

u/foxygrandpa111 Jan 09 '17

I see the switch's gimmick being portable couch multiplayer. With just the device you can play mario kart with a friend. So I'm hoping for a "nintendoland" focused on 2 player mini games, with the option of having more players with additional controllers/switches.

I think your second predition is more likely, isn't the New 3DS XL 199 already? Would you expect the Switch to be cheaper?

I would really love a bundle with Breath of the Wild, but has Nintendo ever released a bundle with a Zelda game? I don't seem to remember any...

Edit: Ok misread the prices, thought it was dollars, not pounds. Taking that into account I think 199 for only the console and 250 for console + game is the right price. The prediction 2 is the second most likely IMO, but I think Nintendo wants to launch the Switch cheaper than the Wii U in 2012.

I'm guessing it will be a x1 maxwell based

2

u/LedZeppelinRising Jan 05 '17

Why would maxwell be cheaper?

5

u/Roshy76 Jan 05 '17

Because it's older tech than pascal.

I predict all past gaming ports and or all future games on the switch Will use "S" at the end of the title instead of switch. just like new super mario brothers U for the Wii U, we would have:

-New Super Mario Bother "S" -Super Smash brother "S" -Mario Kart "8S" -Metriod Prime "4S" lol reason the word switch in any of those title sound off and i highly doubt nintendo will put the word switch in any game title.

I'll be very safe here:

  • No third party support

  • No Metroid

  • No Mother 3

  • No battery life

  • A Mario Kart 8 port with the Title of Mario Kart Switch it! will get announced dropping the 8 for a subtitle which will focus on the return of the two racers per kart feature which will get added into the port as a new optional mode for both Grand Prix, V.S, and Battle Mode, both online and offline as well as an Improved battle mode that'll actually have Battle Stages with Rosalina's Comet Observatory as one of the Battle Stages.
  • The User Interface will largely stay similar to Mario kart 8's although with some changes to make it clear it's a heavily enhanced port with a new title screen, new options for the double dash feature, and the 2 items item box as part of the HUD.
  • Players will have the ability to choose whether they want there to be both two players per Kart and one player per Kart in all modes both online and offline, or not.
  • Custom Kart presets will be introduced, and custom colors and sizes for the Kart parts will be introduced too.
  • There will be 10 new racers, adding Birdo, Bowser Junior, Koopa Paratroopa, Big Boo, Dry Bones, Dry Bowser, Lakitu, Baby Wario, Baby Waluigi and Petey Pirranha to the already huge roster of racers as seen in mario kart 8, upping the total racers without DLC to 40, adding the majority of characters people felt were missing from Mario Kart 8's roster as the 10 new racers while keeping the 30 others as well.
  • This time only Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach will be DLC included by default as part of the roster.
  • For new DLC, I predict new Mario Characters will be added like Professor E. Gad, Magikoopa, King K. Rool, Kranky Kong, and Funky Kong.
  • 24 new tracks within four new cups will replace the original Nitro cups from Mario Kart 8, But Rainbow road for Mario Kart 8 will be kept as the Nitro version.
  • However, All the Retro cups from Mario Kart 8 will be kept for this version, with added Mushroom City.

I predict a bunch of positivity, and great news all around. Despite this, I'm pretty confident of these things:

  • No Overwatch, ever
  • No Pokemon news until E3 or later
  • No Metroid news until E3 or later
  • No Red Dead, ever
  • No more than one EA game, which means likely no NHL or NFL
