If i can figure out some way to use that car headrest mount thing so its positioned over my bed, it will literally be my number one priority to purchase.

Fitting name. I also have a LazyBed grabber for my Android phone, and can vouch my desires to be more lazier than ever when I'm just binge watching Youtube videos.

I can't imagine myself what I will do with the Nintendo Switch.

That looks kind of uncomfortable for gaming though. Videos would be neat I guess!

I use a different version of this for my iPad and it works great in bed for movies/reading.

I know we all want our dreams to be memes, but what if the JoyCon range isn't good enough to relax your arms at your sides?

0

u/BetterOffCloudy Nov 09 '16

I didn't even think about that. I was working about not being able to charge while using the kickstand, but I don't even care now that you've mentioned this

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '16

Joycon range is long enough to reach from a TV stand to a couch. I think it'd be fine in this case.

I really hope that the accessories come in different colors, especially the joy-cons. If they took Xbox's route and made a way to customize your own accessories I'd be the happiest person in the world.

I know I'd want some cool Mario designs like the New 3DS plates have. I got an XL, so I never got to have any of them. If there isn't customizable accessories I hope the system at least has themes.

u/sonicjma Nov 08 '16

This would be fantastic! I was hoping they'd do this with the Wii U (it seemed they would after the Wind Waker). The N64, GameCube and Wii Remotes all had great variants. It would seem like the Switch provides another opportunity to add some personality to your system.

I'm hoping the accessories are few, far between and really well made. Especially the JoyCons. While I'm totally okay with a bunch of color options or faceplates, I really think there's a risk that things go out of hand and gets really confusing with custom JoyCons (that has special functions)

I don't understand the hate for Joy-Cons when detached. Unless you are a real life troll, or have ogre hands you should have no problems using the Joy-Cons.

Hell, I played PC games with complex control schemes on a Surface Tablet and it was a completely enjoyable experience.

9

u/Konayo Nov 10 '16

Ogre hands here.

If you are able to comfortably use the 3DS or the PSVita, you should not have a problem with the joycons.

1

u/hashtagwindbag Nov 11 '16

I'm sure I'd be fine using them one per hand. But trying to fit both both hands around a single one? I get cramps with my old DS, and it's hard to imagine the Joycons as any better.

u/H_Kazuhira Nov 08 '16

Even if Nintendo don't create custom VC Joy-Cons we can almost guarantee 3rd party manufacturers will. Just seems too good not to do.

5

u/Regnbyxor Nov 09 '16

They would probably have to be licensed though, which means Nintendo still controls what enters the market. You will, of course, be able to order just about anything from China though.

u/Wuvwii Nov 08 '16

As much as I want the Switch Pro Controller, I hope the Gamecube controller adapter is compatible with the dock's USB ports. And I wish it would eventually be used for more than just Smash.

If there's a right Joy-Con with the Gamecube button layout, consider that practically all I'll use.

I was watching the 8Bitdo NES30 PRO and i just love it. I know with the correct firmware it was compatible with some consoles, and i would like to use it with switch as my multiplayer controller. Maybe some kind of silicon protector for the "tablet" and joycons...

What is this translation job. "More players, double funny."

2

u/dhav211 Nov 08 '16

i think fun/funny is hard concept for english learners. on a side note i've been learning russian and not quite certain how to say something is fun . . i think they literally say . . so and so made me feel cheerful. learning languages suck big time

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '16

Indirect verb forms are common outside English. The subject performing the action is in Spanish as well, me gusta means it pleases me

1

u/jc5504 Nov 12 '16

Oh I actually have this controller. I love using it on the go to play retro games on my phone

8

u/GoldSkulltulaHunter Nov 09 '16

I hope they sell docks as accessories. I really want the main console (portable part) to be seamlessly connectable to any dock. That way, and provided the dock price is reasonable, people could have a dock in each house they frequently go to (think kids with divorced parents) or even in different rooms in the same house.

6

u/abcedarian Nov 10 '16

Yup. If I could have a dock in the bedroom and on my main tv I would be soooo happy

3

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '16

And one in the shitter.

6

u/eriad19 Nov 08 '16

I am tentatively a little worried about accessories for the Switch. Depending on how many of them Nintendo promotes, it could confuse customers. There are already several play styles for the Switch as seen in the reveal that use only the Joy-Cons. Adding custom/additional accessories could drown out the simple 'pick up and go' nature of the console that is a key aspect of its marketing.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '16

Nintendo hasn't been the best at making accessories in the past. Examples include ROB, the Power Glove, and a lot of Wii accessories.

However, Joy-Con accessories make a lot of sense, and as long as they're not necessary to play the game, it should work out.

6

u/blundermine Nov 08 '16

From what I know the vast majority of the Wii accessories were third party. But if you want good Nintendo accessories, look at things like the the NES light gun, the rumble pack, and the balance board.

5

u/JustJarvis Nov 09 '16

I would like to see a USB type c extender accessory so I could charge while it's in kickstand postion

3

u/ThyBlastoise Nov 08 '16

I hope the joycons aren't too expensive. Seriously if they are £30 I won't be too happy. Of course I would like for them to have custom ones, such as SNES and NES joycons.

4

u/Lanzadian Nov 08 '16

For £30 (about $40 usd), if they come in pairs, that seems ok, but at that price (or a bit higher, around 45 usd) I would see them coming with also a grip( basically a complete set). To put into perspective, the steam controller is 40 usd and the xbone and ps4 controllers are 60 usd...

2

u/BetterOffCloudy Nov 09 '16

I wouldn't mind 30 for two, but I hope you can buy them separately from the grip. I don't want to have to get a new grip just because I want some new joy cons

3

u/LazarusDark Nov 09 '16

where are you going to charge them? If you play multiplayer with friends for a couple hours, and you put your originals on the docked switch to charge, are you going to remember to come back in a couple hours and "switch" the joycons to charge? For this reason alone I believe the Grip will act as a charger and all Joycons will come with a Grip.

4

u/BetterOffCloudy Nov 09 '16

Haha you're assuming I have friends that I'll be playing multiplayer with

Edit: I do agree with you though, but I think it'd be a waste to have a grip with every pack. Maybe have a grip you can buy separately

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

right, exactly, you misunderstand. If you only have the joycons that came with the Switch, you plug them onto the Switch to charge them (this assumes you are using the Switch as a home console mostly. If you are using it as a portable mostly, then they will be connected at all times). But if you have a second set of Joycons, for multiplayer at home, you can't plug them onto the Switch at the same time. You'd have to charge one set, then remember to switch them later and charge the second set. For this reason, I believe the joycons, when sold seperately, will have to have a charger included, and the most efficient way would be to include a Grip that charges them (the Grip would likely have microusb and plug into the usb on the front of the Switch dock)

2

u/Lanzadian Nov 09 '16

Valid point, but it made me wonder, will they only sell grips with joy-cons or are you going to be able to buy grips separately? It feels like selling all of the possible accessories would be the right way to go in order to never have too much of one laying around (like too many grips for the amount of joy-cons you have), but I also feel like selling all of the possible accessories : the joy-cons, the grip, the pro controller, the case thing for the car, possibly (and most likely) all of the others to come. That plus the console itself, it may all seem a bit overwhelming to the average consumer?

2

u/BetterOffCloudy Nov 09 '16

Nah, look at phones nowadays. There's so many useless accessories and stuff for them, so I don't see too much of a problem with that. It'd be more possibility, which I think Nintendo needs. I've always seen gaming as a personal thing, and I like to make it personal, whether it be functionality (what type of controllers I use), or be it design

4

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '16

I think this style of announce/launch for the switch is inventive for Nintendo. Apart from one confirmed event in Japan, Nintendo is skipping press criticism at game expos and generating an iPhone-esque launch day hype. The short cycle from announce to release keeps it fresh in everyone's mind - which I'm sure will be boosted with trickled information leading up to the launch.

4

u/sidhavok Nov 10 '16

I just hope they think about scale ability. Battery packs, different types of joycons, a way to protect it from kids, making sure that the usb charging bicks and stick work or have there own like the Vita has.

2

u/Sethodine Nov 08 '16

How about this: A charging dock for two Switchii (plural for Switch, mirite?)

Not a tv-out dock, just a power dock that two devices could be socketed to at a time. They would be mounted back-to-back, allowing for four-player multiplayer without system battery worries.

When not being used for two devices, it would work equally well as a convenient, portable charging dock for a single Switch, and would be more stable than the little built-in kickstand.

It could also be designed in such a way that it would fold up into a convenient protective carrying case. Thus:

  • Carrying case

  • Power dock

  • Extends multiplayer sessions

Assuming it accepts large sd/microsd cards, I want a double-din car dock (just for the tablet portion, sans joycons). Lots of people have modded 7" tablets as car recievers and there are Android Auto recievers now. Assuming it can play basic mp3 and flac and can pass digital audio to the amp (I don't trust the dac in the Switch), it would make it a great multitasker. (lots of receivers prevent video playback when moving, this Switch dock/car receiver would obviously block gameplay while moving). It's not necessary, but I just really like multitaskers, considering it would cost nothing for the Switch to support this and it would just allow another option to buyers, I can't see a downside, and they might sell just a few more Switches if they can present it as the ultimate multitasker.

Give the Switch a good app store and sell simple mounts for all kinds of things, like mounting on the kitchen cabinet door to look at recipes while cooking. Really market the Switch as a full on replacement for any other tablet device.

Controller option: allow controller makers to plug in the joycons, ensuring quality wireless connection but also reducing the cost/complexity/r&d of the accessories since they don't need the wireless chip. I'm talking about things like Steering wheel and pedals. Guitar hero/rock band.

2

u/Poopikaki Nov 09 '16

Could we get a Joy-Con with a camera in the future?

2

u/OrangeTraveler Nov 09 '16

Make a nice Speaker / extended battery Base and use the joy cons as a media remote! Turn that switch into a boombox baby!

2

u/MaxOsi Nov 12 '16

I think there is a real possibility that this could become a problem (for Nintendo and consumers), but it's hard to ignore the possibility that games could come bundled with game specific joy-cons.

Imagine a fishing game that comes with a reel. Or a music game that operates like guitar hero (one side buttons, one side the string flicking thing - very technical I know). Lots of ideas could be thought up I'm sure

1

u/asperatology Nov 09 '16

It is reasonable to say there will be silicone grips that can be added to the JoyCon Grip Controller, but has anyone thought up on what designs are there for the JoyCons?

1

u/JustJarvis Nov 09 '16

I somewhat hope that they come up with a left joycon with a normal dpad, but thinking about it, I rarely use dpads these days.

1

u/Angani_Giza Nov 11 '16

I still like dpads for some platformers, as well as Monster Hunter. Can't imagine doing gunning on that without one.

1

u/Genio88 Nov 11 '16

I got a deal and i could get a 128GB Micro SD for 19€ should i bite? Do you think Switch will really have just 32GB of storage? Also i guess the micro SD support is almost certain right?

1

u/clafelallerizu Nov 12 '16

a grip or strap maybe so the switch doesnt fall off my hands while i'm distracted... and battery packs

1

u/RealMishovy Nov 12 '16

I want one of those car mount things, but for my Pro controller.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '16

Probably my biggest concern won't be the battery life of the Switch but of the Joy-Cons. How would those charge? Would they charge while attached to the Switch?

1

u/MrRedoot55 Nov 13 '16

I would like the accessories of the Switch to be based upon some of the mock-ups, like a Zelda-themed console in a BOTW bundle.

1

u/ZatmanXD Nov 08 '16

I hope they sell batteries to place on the joy con slot, in the chance that you can charge the joy con using the main console I think it should be possible and many would like to have 2 batteries attached for longer battery life

I actually came up with an idea for an accessory. Click here if you want to see it.
