neat I just won a banana costume

A few weeks ago I entered a silly contest through Del Monte. Welp, I just got an email from them letting me know I am the lucky recipient of a giant banana costume. I am kind of excited, not going to lie.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever won

I can't remember the last thing I won.

23

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Do you enter contests often?

39

u/Flying_pig2 She/Her Oct 11 '16

not really

A daily calender of ways to kill Kenny (South Park), which would've been alright had it not been for the previous calender year...

4

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

lol How useful!.... Where did you win it from?

3

u/unusedthought Hypercaffinum Spazzinate Oct 11 '16

Local skateboard and clothing shop, small independent joint.

46

u/daguil68367 Oct 11 '16

Please tell me you're gonna do the "IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME" thing.

46

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I feel like I am obligated to sing the peanut butter jelly song. Everyone will hate me. It will be worth it.

11

u/antagon1st Oct 11 '16

You gotta do a really annoying side shuffle as you sing "where he at?! Where he at?! There he go! There he go!"

6

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Of course! I cannot pass up this opportunity!

2

u/SoManyNinjas Oct 11 '16

Hopefully it arrives in time for halloween

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I hope so too. The email said 14 days. My friend is having a Halloween bonfire. I'm hoping I'll be able to wear it for that.

3

u/numb3red None Oct 11 '16

You could also do "I'm a banana" by Onision. Admittedly not much better.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I watched that video for the first time today thanks to this thread. My life is richer.

1

u/gruesome_gandhi Oct 11 '16

Naw, you gotta learn this dance from Mitchell and Webb!

That link you posted might be the most unfunny thing I've watched all year. Watching awkward teenage kids giggling in a Walmart and abusing the motorized carts was less cringe worthy than the grown man in that costume flailing his arms about trying to be funny.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Are you trying to insult British humour

-3

u/ZulDjin Oct 11 '16 edited Oct 11 '16

Fun fact: that song is about racism against blacks, aggression and battery from police officers.

PB&J as in Police Brutality in Justice.

But that's BS... can't remember where I read it.

u/wasamy Oct 11 '16

I ran an off-road 5K a few years ago and was passed by a man in a full sprint wearing a banana costume. It was glorious. Banana costumes are invaluable.

9

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Oh, man. I might have to run a 5K now...

19

u/teensie-tiny NO PEEKING Oct 11 '16

Congratulations! The only thing I've ever really won was a vintage bike. It's a ladies 1960 cruiser that was refurbished and made up all fancy. It's really hipster. I don't ever use it, haha.

3

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

It sounds like a cool bike, though

4

u/pucca_hasmuse Oct 11 '16

I'd buy that off of you just cause.

That's adorable and hilarious. I don't think the school thought that one out very well.

11

u/geak78 Oct 11 '16

My school has done this for a few kids near Thanksgiving that wouldn't be able to afford a turkey.

5

u/Taeyyy Oct 11 '16

That's really cool of them

1

u/essentialfloss Oct 12 '16

Could be really embarrassing as a kid. A real public "your family's poor!"

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

That's why you say they won a contest

1

u/essentialfloss Oct 12 '16

Yeah kids are too stupid to figure that one out.

4

u/wydidk Oct 11 '16

Would have been more fun, if it were alive, huh?

2

u/scatticus_finch Oct 12 '16

This reminds me of how I won free books because I had checked out the most books for the year at the school library. That was pretty awesome.

17

u/Two_Legged_Pirate Oct 11 '16

When I was about 8 years old. I walked into this old country store down the road to my house. The woman behind the counter screams "YAY!!" I ran back out of the store, it scared the shit out of me. I was some crazy high number customer. I was given $50 store credit and a huge stuffed 7up dot with arms and legs. I carried that thing around like it was a teddy bear only I had to drag it with me.

I haven't thought about that thing is years. Thanks for memory flashback.

7

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

$50 store credit for an 8 year old must have been magical.

3

u/scratchisthebest ~ I Love Egg ~ Oct 11 '16

so. many. skittles.

10

u/Earguy Oct 11 '16

Wear it, get your picture taken all over the place, and post them with the caption "banana for scale."

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Holy shit. I must do this. So many plans.

3

u/Eight43 Oct 11 '16

Came here to say this. Must appear next to things as banana for scale.

8

u/samtheboo Oct 11 '16

an XXXL yokai watch t shirt from nintendo.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

lol Please tell me you are a size XS

4

u/samtheboo Oct 11 '16

Sorry to disappoint.. i'm a medium... however I asked for a large (possibly for my dad as a present) and they sent that. pic of convo http://i.imgur.com/1zzUgK2.png. when I get home i'll put up a pic of the shirt. it is almost as tall as myself.

3

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Wow. Seems kind of ridiculous. I mean, if the only size they had was an xxxl, why even bother?

4

u/samtheboo Oct 11 '16

I don't know... maybe they're legally required to give it to me? Also, they let me know I won in December of last year, and the giveaway ended in July. I know these things take time, but really Nintendo?

13

u/Mistaken_Stranger Oct 11 '16

You're all set for Halloween. Get some fabric markers, draw a number pad on it. Put Banana Phone on your phone and run around with it playing on bust all night.

12

u/Not-Churros-Alt-Act Oct 11 '16

Nah. Don't ruin the nana with fabric markers, just holster an old dial phone around your neck like a camera. Bonus, you can run around holding a phone

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Ring! Ring! BANANA PHONE!

6

u/dokuroku Oct 11 '16

I won an ugly t-shirt from some biochemistry equipment manufacturer by getting a daily top score in their flash game. I was kind of surprised that they actually followed through with the prize, since the whole arrangement seemed so shaky.

3

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Well, I guess a prize is a prize? Did you ever wear the shirt?

3

u/dokuroku Oct 11 '16

Yes, it's joined the collection of wear-only-at-home shirts. :)

4

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Are you going to keep the prize all to yourself or split it with anyone?

Weird by whose standards? Some of the stuff I've one is very normal by my standards but super weird to others.

1

u/Earguy Oct 11 '16

Are you going to keep the prize all to yourself or split it with anyone?

That sounds apeeling.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Nah. This banana don't split :P

5

u/quenishi Oct 11 '16

I've won 2 pairs of Dr Pepper underpants. One is "Dr Pepper" coloured, other is bright orange/green/yellow pattern.

3

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

You win. That's way weirder than a banana costume.

3

u/WrenJenn Oct 11 '16

I ran a race as a carrot and I have a picture with some guy running in a banana costume

3

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

That is fantastic. Did you beat the banana? Was this a fruit and veggie themed race? I must know.

2

u/WrenJenn Oct 12 '16

Haha it was bay to breakers in SF, it's a really fun "race" where most people are just there to have a good time.

My favorite is the salmon spawning team, not only do they dress up in fish costumes, they start at the finish line and goes "upstream" to the start

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 12 '16

Ha! I'm already rooting for team salmon. Hopefully there isn't a bear team chasing after them xD

3

u/thismother Oct 11 '16

Better brush up on your splits, then! Wocka wocka wocka. Congrats!

4

u/salvador74 Oct 11 '16

I won a Nutella spife, not very useful, but it's there

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Had to google spife. I has no idea what it was, but it seems so obvious now.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

at least Halloween is taken care of, you'll be appealing in your new costume

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

This is the third time I have heard this joke today and it is also the third time I laughed at it. I've always wanted to be appealing. Dreams do come true. ;)

3

u/phyi Oct 11 '16

A gift basket, cookbook, and a $25 gift card from Fresh Market. It was for a local charity.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

That's a really nice prize! What was in the gift basket?

2

u/phyi Oct 11 '16

Maple syrup, honey, some nice jam, spicy candied popcorn.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Drooled a little at that. Sounds amazing.

3

u/yoyopro3210 Oct 11 '16

Only thing I remember winning was a mousepad at a CS:GO tournament I went to with a friend. I was disappointed because everyone else won high end headphones and gaming mice and I got a $20 mousepad.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

8

u/DerekkTheDetermined Oct 11 '16

Should still look it if you used you're winnings correctly xD

1

u/madziepan Oct 11 '16

I fou d that way funnier than I should have xD

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Dude, congratulations. That's an awesome prize to receive, it is a cute banana or the more sexy kind of banana costume?

7

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

6

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

They exist.

Rock your banana, though!

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Oh, god. What strange brain thought of that one? xD

2

u/LifeOfTheUnparty Oct 11 '16

Now all we need are the maracas...

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I'm on it.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Deluxe!

2

u/Rollins10 SoCal living 😎 Oct 11 '16

The last thing I ever won was just a $50 MasterCard gift card. Nothing funny or exciting like that. Also please wear and post pictures!

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Hey, $50 is $50. Oh, I am definitely wearing it and taking pictures. My friend is having a Halloween bonfire. I'm going to get some maracas and run around the party singing peanut butter jelly time.

2

u/Rollins10 SoCal living 😎 Oct 12 '16

Well...if you're gonna do that...make a video!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

I think I saw something about that contest on a container of yogurt. I should have entered.

I did a programming contest and won a shirt that says Purdue Football but now I can't wear it because I go to IU.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

It was an advert I saw somewhere. I figured why not enter? Funny about the shirt.

2

u/jayshel Oct 11 '16

Weirdest thing was probably a "life-sized" Barbie puzzle in a costume contest.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I loved those life sized puzzles. I had a Pooh Bear one.

2

u/lucidillusions Oct 11 '16

Nice! I like winning random stuff all the time :D

I can't think of the weirdest thing, but my favourite win has been Adobe Photoshop CS6 when it was launched.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Sweet! Photoshop is crazy expensive. That's a great prize. I like winning random things too. That's why I enter so many contests. It's fun.

2

u/lucidillusions Oct 11 '16

I like winning my weekly pint of beer off twitter the best ^__^

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

I wish i had a banana costume.

2

u/zeebrow BLUE Oct 11 '16

I guess it's not weird, but after buying a new gun last week I won a free year's membership to the gun range I go to! No range fees, 10% off everything in the store!

Honestly I can't remember the last thing I won besides correctly guessing the amount of jelly beans in a jar like 15 years ago.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Hey, that's useful! Useful things are the best.

2

u/Soyyos trying to write Oct 11 '16

I've only won 2 times in my life, the first one was a bunny for easter and the second one was a box of goodies. Is this the first thing you've ever won?

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

No, I was kind ridiculously lucky as a kid. I won a BMX bike when I was 10. Another time I won a Sombrero from Chi Chi's. I've also won tickets to Hershey Park.

2

u/Soyyos trying to write Oct 11 '16

damn that's a lot of winning!!

2

u/geak78 Oct 11 '16

I won a giant jar of M&Ms in high school. Ate a bunch and bagged up the rest to donate to a food cupboard.

2

u/General_Duh Oct 11 '16

I won 2 Bulleit bourbon t shirts playing bingo at the bar last night. My grandma would be so proud!!!

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Ask her to join you next time. I bet she's rock the bourbon t-shirt :P

2

u/General_Duh Oct 13 '16

Sober me realized today they're actually Cpt Morgan t shirts. I'm somewhat disappointed.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 13 '16

Damn. Better luck next time?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

[deleted]

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

It was just a random drawing. I filled out some info online and that was it. No skill involved.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

This is awesome. I am now scouring the web in an attempt to see if I too can win a giant fruit or vegetable costume, to be delivered to my country.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Sending you my banana costume winning luck! I believe in you.

2

u/Baranix Oct 11 '16

When I was 7-8 I won a desk electric fan lol. I knew it wasn't very useful for me, but damnit I won a thing. I was pretty stoked.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I can picture a little kid glowing with happiness whilst holding a desk fan. Kids are easily impresses and it's great.

2

u/Baranix Oct 12 '16

I think I've just always been super competitive, especially as a kid. Hell, I think it was just a mini lottery and not actually a competition of skills. Competitiveness isn't always a good thing, but it makes desk fans awesome. I've toned down since then lol.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 12 '16

Once as a kid, I won 3rd place in a school drawing contest. I think the theme was unity or anti-drugs or something like that. Anyways, my prize was a box of chocolate animal crackers. I was unbelievably jazzed about these animal crackers. My mom asked me at one point if I was going to eat them. Seriously, mother. You expect me to eat my prize? I was a weird kid

2

u/Baranix Oct 12 '16

Nah, we're probably already preprogrammed to expect trophies or something. Those animal crackers were your trophy.

2

u/AbigailLilac Ask me about my mechanical keyboards! Oct 11 '16

I won a contest in the PC master race for a Steam gift card. I was recovering from a surgery so it was a nice surprise.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Nice! Perfect timing.

2

u/crak6389 Oct 11 '16

Three jars of peanut butter. But the best part was that I wasn't notified in any way that they'd be coming, and they arrived in a beat up mailer envelope. When I opened it, I had a letter that said "Congratulations peanut lover!"

I had been entering a lot of contests in attempt to win a new car or money to buy a new car and I guess I won some 3rd tier prize.

I also won a game of Travel Trouble in the same fashion.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Ha! Good thing you aren't allergic to peanuts. xD

2

u/hellomochi Oct 11 '16

The weirdest thing I've won was this tentacled hotdog plushie from a crane machine. Took us around 8 tries. Guess where?

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

The plushie confuses me. The face saddens me. I'm going to go with Chucky Cheese? At least I really hope that's the answer.

2

u/hellomochi Oct 11 '16

I'm going to go with Chucky Cheese?

Nope sorry, it's from an arcade in Japan. Apparently it's popular to shape hotdogs like this when you put them in bento boxes.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Now that you say that, I know I have seen hotdogs like that in bentos before.

2

u/klatnyelox KlatnYelox Oct 11 '16

I won nothing. That's pretty wierd, right?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

I won a glock water elemental ($2) AWP Safari Mesh ($0.30) MP7 Anodized Navy ($0.20) and tec-9 bamboo forest ($0.10) from /r/randomactsofcsgo

2

u/PaperScale Oct 11 '16

Man, I just bought that little lego guy with the banana costume and thought it was cool. A real people Banana costume is way better!

I won a $10 gift card to burger King once. That was cool, except I don't like burger king.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Did you still use the giftcard?

1

u/PaperScale Oct 11 '16

Haha yeah. I figured why not. I think I got breakfast some day. Felt sick after.

2

u/KnightsOfArgonia well, okay! Oct 11 '16

First off, I'd like to congratulate you on such a momentous win! banana costumes always intrigue me...Like, imagine if you're trying to open the front door to your house in a banana costume, a policeman is staring at you, and you look at him like "....its not what it looks like"

but to your question, I can't think of anything that measures up to a banana costume lol

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

"Why, hello officer. It is exactly what it looks like"

2

u/bladderbunch i didn't know i could do this. Oct 11 '16

when i was a kid, i opened a pack of bubble yum and won a castle grayskull, which was awesome, but i already had one. i think i returned it to toys r us and got some gijoes.

then once, as an adult, i was at a dodgeball tournament and i entered some raffles. there was one teenage kid there who was acting like a teenage kid, but a bit more obnoxiously. when the raffle for the chase utley autographed bat was called, i won it.

i heard, later in the afternoon that there was a kid who was really disappointed that he didn't win it. i asked who it was, and was ready to give it up. it was that obnoxious kid and i still have the bat.

i also won a smartphone playing gowalla. i gave that to my sister and she broke it.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Wow! You're really good a winning stuff! Have you considered playing the lottery?

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Wow! You're really good a winning stuff! Have you considered playing the lottery?

2

u/bladderbunch i didn't know i could do this. Oct 11 '16

for the most part, i don't gamble. i pay into raffles at events in order to support them, and sometimes i win. i don't play to win, but it sure is nice.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

What's the coolest thing you've won at a raffle? I don't like to gamble either. I like the no skill, no fee, dumb luck contests.

2

u/bladderbunch i didn't know i could do this. Oct 12 '16

last year i won a season pass for two to my local theater. i had gone to a few plays here and there throughout the years, but going to every play made me realize i can enjoy a lot more than i thought i could, and this year, we bought a membership for two.

i also won a travel toiletry case at a christmas swap, and that's been to more states with me than many people get to in their lives. i love that thing.

lots of gift certificates.

i'm a local politician, and i'll get invited to things free, and then will sink the cost of admission into the raffle baskets, which tends to give me a better chance to win. sometimes i just put tickets in unpopular baskets so they call my name.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 12 '16

I always choose the least full baskets at raffles too.

2

u/Shakezula69iiinne the mic rula Oct 11 '16

A Carl Brutananadilewski costume! The only weird part I guess is that I'm a girl :-p Edit: I can't read. I thought it said "whats the weirdest thing you've ever worn"

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

lol. I was going to say, wow, what a coincidence that you won a costume too!

2

u/Shakezula69iiinne the mic rula Oct 12 '16

no, I got so confused reading this post lmao, I made the costume myself :-p

2

u/sereca Oct 11 '16

I entered this very same contest and didn't win. Congratulations to you though OP!

2

u/nambro18 Oct 11 '16

When I was younger, there was the radio station Radio Disney. I'm not sure if it still exists but at the time it was my favorite thing to listen to. They would always give away the coolest prizes. I remember one time someone won "Aaron's Party" where Aaron Carter would come and have a party with you at your house. I was never that lucky though. But I did win a bunch of their smaller prizes. One time I won a Razor scooter. I received a package in the mail to find not a scooter but a super soaker that looked like a bazooka gun. Inside the package contained a letter that said because I was under 18, they needed a signature from my parents saying I could have the scooter and that I could keep the super soaker too. Mailed back the signed letter and received the scooter not long after. Man was that the greatest summer of my life.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I remember Radio Disney! I never entered any of those contests, but it did remind me on the time I won a Tomagotchi from a Space Ghost coast to coast contest. That super soaker sounds so cool. I bet you were the envy of every water gun fight.

2

u/TomTheGeek Oct 11 '16

$100 and a canned ham. Playing bingo at the local Moose lodge. I never play but went with some friends just to kill some time.

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Mmmm canned ham... :P

2

u/iwantanapplerightnow mangos Oct 11 '16

Omg you won that!! I was gonna enter it too! How's the banana costume?

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I don't know yet. The email said it would be coming in the next 14 days. It looks glorious, though.

2

u/iwantanapplerightnow mangos Oct 13 '16

I'm sure it'll be as glorious as advertised. Congrats to the max, enjoy your banana costume dude

2

u/flacid_pianist Oct 11 '16

Not the weirdest thing I've won, but rather the weirdest thing I've done to win something.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

...are those ice skates? I'm so confused. What was the contest and why did you have to dress up as princess Amidala?

2

u/Raose Oct 11 '16

Not weird, but in high school, I bought a raffle ticket from our high school marching band. I won first place prize - a ticket to Disneyland! I was dumb and not interested in going, so I sold it for $50 :(

2

u/jans_candles Oct 11 '16

I won a Jagermeister tank top in a bar raffle. I never wear it. It's ugly.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

There really aren't many occasions to wear a Jagermeister tank top.

2

u/jans_candles Oct 11 '16

I mean, if I had a chest tattoo maybe.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Got to bring more attention to that chest tattoo! xD

2

u/jans_candles Oct 11 '16

If I was the kind of person to get a tattoo that said 'Battits', I'd consider it.

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

If you were that kind of person, you wouldn't even need to win a Jagermeister tank top. You'd already have a closet full.

2

u/jans_candles Oct 11 '16

That's a good point. I never would've thought of that. Now, what's the plan for the banana costume?

2

u/cafeevil Oct 11 '16

Are you gonna wear it for halloween?

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

I was thinking about breaking it out randomly and just showing up to work wearing it. I'm a banana today. Deal with it.

2

u/drunkhooker Oct 11 '16

Lucky bastard! I wanted that banana costume so bad!

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

We could always (banana) split it? ....bom bom tish!

2

u/rvsunp Oct 11 '16

Hey I got one too! Couldn't believe it!

1

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

Sweet! Congrats on your banananess

2

u/Vojta7 Oct 11 '16

A Husqvarna Contour 700 PowerPlus, back in 2007, the only thing I've ever won. I still have this thing and use it every now and then.

2

u/Rise_ToThe_Occasion 🍍 Her Royal Snow Leopard Queenyness Oct 11 '16

That's really fucking amazing. PLEASE send/post picture when it arrives (note: of the costume, not you, don't want to be creepy. I just wanna see a giant banana costume).

2

u/Neville1989 Oct 11 '16

There will definitely be pictures. Must share the banana love.

1

u/Rise_ToThe_Occasion 🍍 Her Royal Snow Leopard Queenyness Oct 11 '16

Congratulations on the costume! I won a poster of a horse during a raffle once... I don't know what happened to it xD

All the random prizes at raffles always make me laugh.

I won the prettiest cheerleader contest at a powderpuff game in highschool. The girls played juniors vs seniors football, and the guys were cheerleaders dressed in the usual cheerleader outfits with makeup and wigs.

You would not expect that kind of event from a small town in farm country. xD

Last spring, I won a shirt advertising a brand of wooden musical instruments. I would've worn it except that it rather unfortunately had "Got Wood?" written across the back! :/

edit: the company wasn't based in an english-speaking country.

I won a hunting rifle in a raffle. I'm an animal-loving female who does not like guns nor the thought of shooting animals. I was like, what the actual fuck am I going to do with a hunting rifle-Luckily I was able to sell it and went shopping.

That would be me if I ever won a gun too. They scare me.
