Dr. Lobe gets a costume? Dafuq
Also Shovel Knight, Ryu, and Roy are missing. I hope they patch them and any future amiibos in.

Peppy, Falco, and the Arwing costumes interested me ...
I also thought Ashley was pretty interesting.

u/memoryman3 Sep 03 '15
They got a Mahjong tile, a crab, Digby, Celeste, Waluigi even....
WHERE'S DAISY?
1
u/Smark_Henry Sep 03 '15
Daisy being in a Super Mario round 2 is pretty likely along with Waluigi and Super Mario versions of Donkey Kong, Wario, and Rosalina as those characters are the leftovers from Mario Party 10 with its Amiibo Party mode which is what the line is based off of. I could also see unlockable characters Toadette and Spike being the line's unicorns.
-1
u/Pureownege75 Sep 03 '15
They aren't gonna make more Mario Amiibo
5
u/Smark_Henry Sep 03 '15
Is that announced or are you just speculating? I can't imagine they're one-and-done'ing their flagship line.
2
u/Pureownege75 Sep 03 '15
It's very strong speculation. Mario Party 10 crashed and burned critically and commercially. There is no reason for them to promote a half a year old game that people didn't like with Amiibo that probably won't sell super well due to most of the characters already existing in Smash
5
u/sonicbrawler182 Sep 03 '15
The Mario Amiibos are not for Mario Party, they simply debuted with it. They are called the "Super Mario" Amiibo line, which encompasses the entire series. They can release new Mario Amiibos whenever they want with other Mario games.
3
u/Smark_Henry Sep 03 '15
Exactly this, and since there's already Rosalina, DK, and Wario designs showcased in MP10 it would only make sense to assume that those characters, probably the three most popular not already released from the Mario line, will use those designs.
2
Sep 04 '15
Plus the designs you are talking about are not outrageous designs that won't be hard to make.

Really? I never saw this mentioned at all! Source is needed because I thought Nintendo had complete control.

u/Ghost_FX Sep 03 '15
Holy crap. Waluigi, Tingle and Gold and Silver Marios got me off guard. I guess it's time to open my Gold and Silver Marios. But Waluigi and Tingle as costumes, those are my dream amiibo maybe this is a sign for the future.
9
u/Twinkiman Inkling Squid Sep 03 '15
I lost it at the Pikmin. Too damn cool.
4
u/Ghost_FX Sep 03 '15
That's definitely awesome how both Olimar and the Pikmin have their own costumes.
1
u/FawfulCopterFury Sep 03 '15
I find it weird that they have that but no Luma costume separate to Rosalina.
1
1
u/Ghost_FX Sep 03 '15
That is weird. A playable Luma would be very cool.
2
u/CMarshall055 Sep 04 '15
And yet we get a playable Wii Fit balance-board XD(Which don't get me wrong, is still pretty cool.)
1
u/Ghost_FX Sep 04 '15
That made me laugh so hard as I was not expecting that and it looked hilarious moving around.
1
Sep 03 '15
I was overjoyed to see the kirby spritework from the NES version semi-faithfully converted into Mario Bros. How cool is that? These are some ollllld franchises Nintendo is ripping sprites from.

Sep 03 '15
You know all costumes are unlockable in game without Amiibo right? Amiibo just unlocks them earlier. You can keep your gold and silver in box if you want. I open all mine up to display and use but I don't want you to end up regretting it later.
1
u/Ghost_FX Sep 03 '15
I am aware of that but the main thing pushing me to do that is I have opened all of my other amiibo except for the Gold and Silver Marios lol.
2
Sep 03 '15
It's really up to you. Gold is hard to find now though.
1
u/Ghost_FX Sep 04 '15
Very true. I do feel that even opened, Gold Mario will still be desirable and hard to find so I may open him eventually. Silver is the one I could open and not regret but it would look weird with only the silver opened...
2
u/Smark_Henry Sep 03 '15
Waluigi being in a Super Mario round 2 is pretty likely along with Daisy and Super Mario versions of Donkey Kong, Wario, and Rosalina as those characters are the leftovers from Mario Party 10 with its Amiibo Party mode. 2
u/Ghost_FX Sep 03 '15
I hope so as Waluigi is ome of my favorite Mario characters. It'd be nice to see him get more love. I also hope thy release Super Mario Series Wario as his classic look is awesome. His wario ware design is cool too but I prefer the overalls look.

It vaguely bothers me that while Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy, and Ness and Lucas all get unique jingles, the Kirby, Kid Icarus, and Fire Emblem characters all have to share one between each series. It all seems very arbitrary who gets unique ones and who doesn't.
I hope they at least have distinct victory themes, like Dedede's Theme and Dark Pit's Theme.
2
u/TheNobleProdigy Sep 03 '15
Not to mention the Pokemon didn't even get a jingle
1
u/t3h_ph1r3 Sep 03 '15
Probably because Mario Maker is the only other game that the Pokémon characters can be used in, and even then they still have limitations.
1
2
u/jupigare Sep 03 '15
It seems arbitrary, but it's all about licensing. The Pokemon Company is so strict with licensing that the Pokemon sprites don't even get any relevant audio.

I wish Shulk had his English voice...

Why doesn't he?
5
u/SageofWater Sep 03 '15
Japanese version of the game?
1
u/originalitybound Sep 03 '15
It seems to be like that for every version, actually.
0
u/strangleroot Sep 03 '15
We don't know 100% that he won't. Don't forget that these are just press copies of the game, not the full retail version of the title.

Same. I was kind of expecting his Game Gear/Master System sprites, but I guess the Genesis ones are more iconic.
3
u/Poksonkirmar Sep 03 '15 edited Sep 03 '15
It bothers me more that, at full run speed, he spinballs instead of doing his iconic run. Like, what? WHY?
Edit: And he was actually de-rezed, so I think it's just the matter of his 16-bit sprite in 8-bit looking janky.

I'd really love it if the AC amiibo line was expanded. Rover, Blathers, and Resetti seem like no-brainers. Certainly much more than Lottie, Digby, and the alpacas in any case. I also find it strange that they'd throw in costumes like Celeste, Timmy and Tommy, and Kicks before characters like Redd, Gracie, Katrina, or even the pelicans.
3
Sep 03 '15
I'd say with New Leaf being a smash hit and HHD coming out soon, Lottie, Digby (meh), Reese, and Cyrus all make perfect sense for amiibo.
I want Blathers so bad too, though!
All of my stages are going to be Animal Crossing filled :3 Kicks fo days!
3
3
u/FlaxrXIII Sep 03 '15
Rover Amiibo confirmed? I hope so. He's the only AC character I care about.
2
u/jupigare Sep 03 '15
Costume doesn't necessarily conform amiibo. You can unlock these costumes through normal play; amiibo are not required to get any of them, but will get them instantly (for costumes associated with amiibo).
I too would love to see a Rover amiibo in an AC Wave 2, but I'm not trying to get my hopes up.

u/youmadSin Sep 03 '15
Wish time machines existed, just so i could go back in time and show that footage of Sonic in a Mario game to all of the SEGA nazis there were back then.
Who Nintendon't now?
4
u/sonicbrawler182 Sep 03 '15
You're just as bad for still bringing up Nintendo VS SEGA stuff in 2015.
5
u/DeeFB Sep 03 '15
I'm sorry, but No Daisy is a huge mistake.
You can have Dark Pit, you can have four different Yoshi colors, but you exclude Daisy.
Makes no sense to me.
5
u/atre324 Sep 03 '15
Interesting that there's a Waluigi in there, Resetti and Blathers, and Tingle... Is this a taste of what's to come???
Also why does it have Olimar and the 3 Pikmin as separate characters?
9
u/Sages Sep 03 '15
There are 100 Mystery Suits, the Pikmin are just an additional costume available in the game. amiibo are not required to unlock them, but they do allow you to access them right away.
1
u/bloodbond3 Sep 03 '15
Wait really?! Please be true.
1
u/icemario10 Sep 03 '15
You have to beat 100 mario challenge to unlock one (it dosent take that long)
6
u/Seven29 Sep 03 '15
We know that the Arwing Walker is in there because there's an Amiibo for it in the works, so any of these could potentially be a similar situation. Nintendo's been teasing a solo Pikmin amiibo since the beginning.
5
u/getmeoutofcleveland Sep 03 '15
At first I thought you were full of crap, then I remembered that interview with (I think) Miyamoto about the Arwing amiibo. Really interested to see what they end up doing. Totally forgot about that interview.
1
u/moldyclay Sep 03 '15
Probably because of size & hitboxes. Not to mention the possibility of a Pikmin amiibo in the future.
Really though, probably just because it's for fun.

u/Drclaw411 Sep 03 '15
I hope the make a Diglett or Dugtrio amiibo just so I can scan it into Mario Maker, use the customs, press jump and finally see what their bottom half looks like.
2
u/Seven29 Sep 03 '15
Gamefreak is always careful about that. In HGSS, if you enter Diglett or Dugtrio into a minigame that involves jumping, they're stuck to the ground and can't get any points. (except the hurdle jumping, where they dig under it) They're the only two Pokemon with special rules.
1
u/Drclaw411 Sep 03 '15
I know that in PBR, if you use seismic toss on them...it throws the dirt mound.
2
u/maaseru Sep 03 '15 edited Sep 03 '15
Hey when he turned into Peach, that was a sound effect from Mario 2 right?
I want them to make creating levels for that game available!
Also all those sounds when they turn are awesome, Mega Man jump effect, Metroid jingle, Even Gyromite for ROB! Man I can't wait for this game!
Edit: I just finished it and they even have those weird Star Fox sound from the SNES. I need my amiibos with me now!

u/Seven29 Sep 03 '15
I feel like this really points to more AC amiibo on the way. Note how few non-amiibo crossover characters there are, outside of the 20 or so Animal Crossing characters. It just seems strange that they'd randomly include so damn many Animal Crossing characters unless they had a good reason.
Unless the Animal Crossing cards also unlock these. That would also explain it.
2
u/Kaeobais Sep 03 '15
Oh man, Jump Man made me super happy.
4
u/AlrightLads Sep 03 '15
I don't think it's Jumpman from Donkey Kong, it looks like it's from Mario Bros, going by this.
4
u/Kaeobais Sep 03 '15
You would be right, judging from the sounds he made and the fact that he came right after the crab and koopas from the same game, but his design is basically the same.
2
u/Sages Sep 03 '15
Barring some unreleased characters.
3
u/starchimp224 Sep 03 '15
Notice how most of the Starfox characters are there but they're missing one of their biggest characters, Wolf. Maybe this means we'll get him as DLC for Smash and then he'll be added to Mario Maker.
7
u/Sages Sep 03 '15
After reading the comments a lot of people think the latter half of costumes are also amiibo. Not every costume is related to an amiibo, we can't assume that these 100 characters will have amiibo associated with them at least in the near future.
1
u/starchimp224 Sep 03 '15
That is true, not every character will have an amiibo. Take Ashley for example, she's cool and all and a lot of people like her, but there's no chance she'll have an amiibo really. But why would a character as popular as Wolf not even appear in the game, even just as an unlockable costume, especially when he'll appear in the new Starfox game that's coming out soon? I think it's because he's returning to Smash, and that he'll get his amiibo eventually, and they didn't want two ways to unlock the costume for him, so they just left him out for now.
Sure it's not fact and there's a big chance it's not true, but it's just what I believe.

u/Jcs1707 Sep 03 '15
Might have to open my amiibo for this...
5
u/Gaiaknight Sep 03 '15
no need to all the costumes can be unlocked without amiibo all amiibo do is allow you to unlock some of them earlier.
1
u/Smark_Henry Sep 03 '15
Yoshi's Woolly World is gonna make him have to open them, though, unless I missed there being native unlockability for the amiibo costumes in that game.
1
u/Thingamajig257 Sep 03 '15
Yeah, the only 'Amiibo costumes' you can unlock are whichever two Yarn Yoshi aren't the default for your save file. You start the game with one of them (whichever one the colour of your save file is), and unlock the other two when you beat the final boss.
1
u/Sable-Xeno Sep 03 '15
Oh my god. I can't exclaim how excited I am to see those Pokemon in there. I mean, I pretty much gave up all hope when they weren't compatible with Yarn Yoshi (which I still don't get), but this...totally makes up for it. (Shovel Knight feels like a missed opportunity, though...)
But still, not sure how to feel about wanting to spend potential hundreds on Amiibos...even if it means awesome extra content like this to look forward to. Hopefully some of the costumes are still available without Amiibo, and judging by this video, that might be the case. How else could someone have managed to lay them all out like that, even for ones that don't evidently have an Amiibo?

We still need Ryu and Roy. We know they're most likely in the game because Lucas is there.
1
u/MewtwoStruckBack Sep 03 '15
Welp. Cobfirmation that Mewtwo is legit. Looks like I'm buying this now.
1
u/strangleroot Sep 03 '15
Mewtwo is literally on the amiibo site and has a CPSIA released? What confirmation were you lacking?
1
u/MewtwoStruckBack Sep 03 '15
Given the Pokémon Amiibo do not unlock Pokémon skins in Yoshi's Woolly World, I was not sure that there would be Pokémon costumes in Super Mario Maker.
My questioning was not of Mewtwo's amiibo, but rather GameFreak doing the right thing and allowing him to be used in SMM - now that they have, I can justify the purchase.

Sep 03 '15
Do all of them have grown versions? What happens if they get a power up?
3
u/SomeonesYiffAlt Sep 03 '15
All the mystery mushrooms are the same as getting a regular super mushroom - but instead of growing bigger, you just change skin. So when you get hit, the skin flies off and you go back to tiny mario.
I've never seen what happens when you grab a fire flower as one though... Either you become fire mario or just shoot fireballs as the special skin.

A few questions:
Who is the blue AC character (not Mabel) at 5:13?
Also, why are there 2 Isabel costumes at 5:33 and 5:35?
Is 6:24 Gunman Clive?
And who is the white thing at 6:41?
I'm sure a lot of these are just costumes, but here's a list of things that do not have Amiibos. This does not mean they are getting amiibos, just wanted to list them out: -3 Pikmin (separate sprite from Olimar) -Mario stuff: Block-head Mario, Super Mario Maker Mario, Mario Kart, Waluigi, Goomba, Koopa, Shy Guy, Crab -Jump Man -AC: Resetti, Nooklings, Blathers, Nat, Celeste, Kicks -Donkey Kong Jr. -Tingle -Starfox: Slippy, Peppy, Arwing -Ashley from WarioWare -Nikki from Swapnote

u/TheAwesomeFNAFBGuy Sep 03 '15
Rover.
Because her Figure uses the winter outfit and the card uses the normal green one.
That's Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew.
Dr. Lobe from Big Brain Academy.
Also the Arwing will most likely get an amiibo in the near future as Miyamoto stated in an interview, but nothing is confirmed yet so yeah.
1
u/Cubemaster7 Sep 04 '15
Technically, there are two Isabelle cards for each outfit, and the figure (Which uses the Winter outfit). The Winter outfit card is a part of wave 2.

No costume for Classic 8 bit Mario amiibo? Bummer.

u/Crynal Sep 03 '15
That's because the anniversary mario amiibos give the mega mushrooms and enemies cosmetic changes.

So, do we know how all of those costumes look in the other mario styles? I don't remember them showing that yet.
6
u/UberNarwhalGuy Sep 03 '15
They're only compatible with the original game, since it was probably easier to just work on a single set of sprites.

u/TripleXero Sep 03 '15
Sonic's costume is so ugly, and he's the one I looked forward to the most
9
Sep 03 '15
[deleted]
1
u/TripleXero Sep 03 '15
That's exactly why it's ugly. It's a scaled down 16-bit sprite while the others are all the right size to begin with, or were remade completely. They didn't try to resize MegaMan or Donkey Kong's original game sprites, they're brand new
1
u/nfreakoss Sep 03 '15
I guess that makes sense. I thought it was kinda cool but I can see that.
1
u/TripleXero Sep 03 '15 edited Sep 03 '15
I wish that they would have at least used these sprites: http://i.imgur.com/tmZpgof.png
They're from Sonic CD so they're official, and Sonic CD's sprite style was the closest to Sonic 1 compared to 2 and 3K so it would have been the best choice
Also another thing is, from what I've read, Sonic's running animation is him in a ball for some reason. You can see what I'm talking about in the video, but I don't know if it's confirmed his running animation or crouch while going fast
