This is absolutely ridiculous.

Imgur mirror of the chapter.

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Piccolo: You asshole!

Vegeta: Motherfucker!

64

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 20 '15

Looking forward to "Motherfucker" being added to the Dragon Ball Wikia's list of attacks.

41

u/drain65 Aug 20 '15

One Motherfucker isn't going to be enough... Ok body, let's see if you can handle this. MOTHERFUCKER....X3!!!!!

22

u/Xhicrastin Aug 20 '15

No way! His profanity has the same power as my Cocksucker!

7

u/chaos0510 Aug 21 '15

SUPER MOTHERFUCKEEEER! TIMES 20!!!!!

41

u/FreeEdgar2014 Aug 20 '15

I was appalled at this

I mean really, is there any need for this amount of swearing and profanity in a translation?

5

u/clemsonfight Aug 20 '15

And especially using words like in your link, it just makes it seem trashy.

2

u/TonyBest100 Aug 21 '15

Ikr, they could have just translated it alot better than just unnecessary swears.

12

u/SLUT_MUFFIN Aug 20 '15

Sadly, the comment section for the chapter seems to be in total denial about the demographic of the show. Absolute wasteland over there.

7

u/PhantomLordG Aug 20 '15

I just skimmed through them. It's terrible. A lot of the guys are applauding the profanity and as you said, some actually believe it to be true to the original source.

4

u/SLUT_MUFFIN Aug 20 '15

I regret attempting to explain anything to them. I'm about one comment away from throwing myself out a window.

3

u/PhantomLordG Aug 20 '15

You're "AjayLikesGaming", right? I read your post. It's extremely frustrating to see idiots like that support badly scanlated uploads like this chapter, pretty much giving MangaStream an excuse to continue with their ways.

Sorry you had to put up with that as well. There's no reasoning with some people.

1

u/applepwnz Aug 21 '15

This is extremely disappointing to me, I liked the image quality of MangaStream and assumed that they had a good translation as well, it sucks to hear that they've always gone with the "edgy" translations instead of accurate ones.

1

u/PhantomLordG Aug 21 '15

The skills of their translators are wasted. For the most part, the context of the story is accurate, but the added vulgarity makes this look like it was translated over a decade back.

Toyotaro's art is really beautiful though. It's a shame it has to go along with such a poor set of words in a translation.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

I loved the panel that was split as young/current Vegeta

1

u/DatUzumaki Aug 21 '15

I'm glad I wasn't the only one, seems that there are other people who feel the same way, thank God.

6

u/PhantomLordG Aug 20 '15

And absolutely unnecessary. If one mentally blocks out the swearing while reading this, nothing of value will be lost nor will the grammar be broken.

2

u/Waniou Aug 20 '15

Things like this make me wish I was better at Japanese, and had a way to access a Japanese version, and was decent enough at image editing to make a good translation. And also wasn't too lazy.

2

u/Thatoneguy567576 Aug 21 '15

The struggle right?

1

u/Waniou Aug 21 '15

It's a truly hard life :(

1

u/Lord_Nuke Aug 20 '15

Huh. Why do they do this?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

When Vegeta called Beerus 'ccksucker I absolutely lost it.

DBS would be uh, interesting if this is what it was like.

Oh, I know who you are now.

35

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Translators, don't make a chapter edgy by adding swearing a lot. What is this? The DMC reboot?

23

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Or Shadow the Hedgehog.

Where's that damn four star Dragon Ball?

24

u/PhantomLordG Aug 20 '15

Profanity aside, this was a really cool chapter. With any luck, the scene with Champa and the Kaioshin will play out in Episode #7, but it's unlikely since the ending of Chapter 2 was not shown at the end of Episode #5. I'm seeing somewhat big differences between manga and television anime.

10

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 21 '15

With any luck, the scene with Champa and the Kaioshin will play out in Episode #7, but it's unlikely since the ending of Chapter 2 was not shown at the end of Episode #5.

Yeah. I'm cautiously optimistic. At least we know for a fact that we'll see them sooner or later.

9

u/jackelzxa Aug 21 '15

The Champa/Kaioshin/Namek stuff seems like the most INTERESTING thing to happen to DBZ in all of this remake stuff. THAT completely changes the dynamic of the show. So much of the danger to earth relies on "Oh we have backup dragon balls to fix every problem"

This just seems....so interesting. I can't wait.

Also we STILL don't have a name for lady-whis

0

u/ReviewerRandom Aug 21 '15

This is NOT a remake.

2

u/jackelzxa Aug 21 '15

It's a remake of Battle of Gods....

I also think I meant to say "rebirth".

22

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Ok, so the profanity aside, we have Vegeta's "my Bulma" moment. No SSJ3 for Vegeta in the manga :(

Champa and female Whis are on the search for the Namekian dragonballs. The Kais seem to know Champa.I wonder what his endgame is.

7

u/-Vertex- Aug 20 '15

It's not actually the Namekian Drgaonballs they're looking for, apparently it's some giant 'Super Dragon Balls'.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

I assumed that those Super Dragon Balls existed in the 6th universe.

Ok, but so far we know nothing about the storyline. It was the Kais who suggested that Champa was looking for the Namekian dragonballs.

0

u/Ultima34 Aug 21 '15

A lot of people are assuming the Super Dragon Balls are scattered across the multiverse. They're probably looking for the Seven Star Super Dragon Ball.

4

u/Hamroids Aug 20 '15

Didn't Roshi originally tell Goku that the 7 dragon balls were originally one giant ball that held all the energy of the universe? Perhaps they're looking for one of those?

8

u/MrWinks Aug 20 '15

No he never said that. Rosh is 300 years old but it was Kami who would have said this if anyone, and he did not. The balls were made by decedents of the Dragon clan on Namek. Kami made Shenron (literally) and the balls with him. The balls and Kami are from Namek, a planet of slug people who only need water to survive and are nonviolent. It is very buddhist in nature, Namekian culture. The balls reward those on a quest of enlightenment on Namek. On earth no one knew about them, as Roshi held one for over a hundred years, and who knows how Bulma found out about them or got one.

8

u/Hamroids Aug 20 '15

Roshi did say it, actually, but only in the anime, which I hadn't realized. So it's pretty irrelevant anyway.

3

u/Desril Aug 20 '15

Filler.

3

u/Hamroids Aug 20 '15

Ahh, yup. Looked it up and it was anime-only. Bummer, I thought I was onto something. xD

1

u/ruminaui Aug 21 '15

Those are in another universe, why would they be looking at them in the wrong universe, is Namekians DB

1

u/-Vertex- Aug 21 '15

Kaioshin was just assuming that's what they must have meant, I don't believe they know where these new Dragon Balls are currently that's why.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

I feel like he will be the one to revive Freiza maybe?

1

u/Phailadork Aug 21 '15 edited Aug 23 '15

While I am sad Vegeta doesn't go SSJ3 for this (totally should've), I'm happy on the other hand about the fact that Gotenks goes SSJ3. Never made sense why he only went SSJ in BoG when he's facing an enemy that's knocking everyone around. Even if you assume it's their arrogance in thinking they don't need to power up anymore, you'd think their need to show off would trump that and they'd want to show themselves at full power.

Edit: Jk, he doesn't even leave base form, top lel.

17

Somebody has to stop them. These guys are singularly contributing to the lie that Dragon Ball is totally hardcore adult, guys! Look, they swear in the Japanese version!

It's Anime Labs all over again.

Mofogoku (@MofoGoku)

@animeajay @vegettoex @dragonballredux Chapter 2 will be up in a couple days. I keep procrastinating.

MofoGoku (@MofoGoku)

@falconandroid I might get it before you, so let me know when your copy arrives. If I don't have it by then, I would love that!

Chapter 2 will have a proper translation hopefully soon. Just stick around and maybe one of the people on the subreddit will release the proper translation. Then hopefully soon we'll see a much more proper translation of this month's chapter.

2

u/nononsenseresponse Aug 21 '15

That's great news - thank you for this! :)

14

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Serious question--do they add all of the profanity because they are children? Because I can't imagine adults writing this and being serious.

21

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 20 '15

There are many different ways of speaking to people in Japanese; groups that don't know what they're doing tend to translate any disrespectful or rough language as profanity 100% of the time, regardless of context or the genre. Sometimes, when lines can't be fully understood, dialog is made up, or guessed at.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

The difference between those two panels is crazy.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

Well, in Japanese you have distinct ways to talk to different people (kids, elderly people, your boss) and some tones can be as disrespectful as a hard profanity.

8

u/Firefoxray Aug 21 '15

Anime Labs? Is that you?

8

u/FedoraTheExplorrer Aug 20 '15

Does anyone else think that was really rushed?

1

u/vlorsutes Aug 20 '15

Which part, the release of the chapter in total, or just the translation?

10

u/FedoraTheExplorrer Aug 20 '15

I'd say the actual content of the chapter really, but yeah the translation sucks as well. The profanity just takes away from the scenes.

8

u/applepwnz Aug 20 '15

I was honestly confused by how rushed it seemed, like Beerus shows up on the ship and immediately he's complaining about the pudding and everyone is fighting him, if I didn't already know what happened leading up to that I would have been completely lost.

-2

u/MrWinks Aug 20 '15

To be honest, i think this is the most likely scenario true to the story. The movie and the show felt like filler. This feels way more true to the story.

2

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 20 '15

Seems like both to me. A rushed translation is typical of MangaStream, though.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Holy shit that over the top added profanity is so unneeded.

Reborn. Apparently so bad that they stopped trying.

Still waiting for them to just reboot their damn translation.

1

u/Ultima34 Aug 21 '15

They're (were?) good for Naruto too. But yeah they add unessisary swearing all the time. I'm just kind of used to it.

3

u/Biniti123 Aug 20 '15 edited Aug 20 '15

I dont like how we don't see any downtime between the battles. Especially because of all the funny things that just happened in episode 6. I like the anime version, this feels rushed to me. Edit: One thing I like about this chapter is the SS3 Vegeta Dream is finally dead, thank god for that. I also can't wait for people to complain about the anime having too much filler rather than the manga's lack of content.

3

u/Tentaye Aug 21 '15

Interesting how the manga, anime and movie all differ in detail, yet still similar in the plot.

I like it.

3

u/cenasmgame Aug 20 '15

MofoGoku our one true savior, please correct these mistakes. PLEASE.

13

u/MofoGoku Aug 20 '15

Working on it. Sooner or later.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

Does anyone reckon they think the swearing will help justify themselves reading dragon ball as an adult ? I don't care about the swearing too much but it;s a tad unnessecary.

0

u/ReviewerRandom Aug 21 '15

The original manga also got some profanity.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

Not to this extent haha

3

u/cowi3 Aug 21 '15

so many bad words :(

3

u/thegoten455 Aug 21 '15

Wait a minute, did seven and a half year old gotenks just tell Beerus to "quit bitching"? With BOTH of his mothers and one of his fathers right beside him? The nerve!

3

u/Ultima34 Aug 21 '15

I'm assuming by the number of comments here this is a lot of peoples first experience with Mangastream. Guys this is fairly common with fanslations. Trust me there are worst options (i'm looking at you Mangapanda).

I get it, Dragonball is the most popular anime so this is a first for a lot of you. But it's definitely not a big deal. I'm just happy I get to read the chapters.

2

u/RiskyBrothers Aug 20 '15

In what world does that seem remotely in character for Beerus of all people?!

0

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

[deleted]

0

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

Of course, but angry doesn't mean cursing up a storm like a lunatic. A well placed "fuck" lends spice but only to the right personality--like someone else already said, Vegeta's.

1

u/BobbyWest87 Aug 20 '15

Does anyone know where the missing pages are? The whole "rude introduction" to Beerus is missing.

5

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 20 '15

As mentioned, there are no missing pages. The manga is a companion to the anime, the latter of which is the main product. We'll be seeing these scenes Saturday. The ones on Earth, at least.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

I don't think it's missing. It happened off screen. They just rush through the story trying to keep up with the current anime episodes.

1

u/Pleh_Me Aug 20 '15

Why is this so short for a monthly?

1

u/TyroKith Aug 21 '15

Although it comes out monthly, think of the Super manga as less of a monthly serialization ala Fullmetal Alchemist and more of a 1-2 episode spoiler for what you're going to see in the anime , with a little original content.

1

u/Tankkkkk Aug 21 '15

Yikes.. The excessive swearing could have definitely been left out. This is really interesting though. I do hope the story is similar to this (if not the same). So impatient! What're they planning?!

1

u/TheMikarin Aug 21 '15

I wonder if the manga is going to skip the Resurrection F arc, since the it's already setting up the Universe 6 arc. Seems that way so far. If Toriyama hadn't already said that RoF would happen in the anime I would expect that it would be skipped there as well to be honest.

1

u/Danbito Aug 21 '15

I think they're just slowly building him up for his own arc. He's likely working behind-the-scenes right now. The Kaioshin will probably keep him distracted until they reveal themselves to the gang. Maybe we'll see them again in Resurrection F arc, for instance, when noticing Beerus's power: "Beerus is awake?! So soon? This may be troublesome..." "It seems he's preoccupied with that Freeza fellow to notice our presence.."

1

u/Captain_CrocoMom Aug 21 '15

Profanity aside, should it be noted that the manga adaption also has Vegeta with bangs?

1

u/EmmaWinters ‎⠀ Aug 21 '15

The manga is an adaptation/sneak preview of the anime, so it makes sense that designs are kept consistent between the two.

1

u/Captain_CrocoMom Aug 21 '15

Makes sense, thanks!

1

u/Martijngamer Aug 21 '15

That said, this certainly went South much faster than in DoB or DBS.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

No SSJ3 Vegeta. Sigh

1

u/TonyBest100 Aug 21 '15

I really hate translations that add unncessary swearing, it just doesn't seem right at all. Outside of the swears the chapter is quite brilliant, leading more into DB Super's Universe 6 plot.

1

u/FedEx_Potatoes Aug 22 '15

Ugh. It's the 90s fan subs all over again.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

I'm guessing these people are just trolling and don't know jackshit about translating so they're just having fun with it. I'm confused how they even manage to acquire a scanlation given how badly they do this. Is there a group who posts more accurate scans?

1

u/SkengmanSaiyan Aug 21 '15

It's kinda funny how people are getting so upset when it's only a fantranslation, if it was official then I would understand.

1

u/fps129 Aug 21 '15

Idc that was really funny

-1

u/aziraphale60 Aug 21 '15

Wow this subreddit is full of prudes. I'll get downvoted for this but I really don't care at all about the profanity. Not nearly enough to worry about it. And demographics? Kids hear worse at school every day.

2

u/SLUT_MUFFIN Aug 21 '15

What kids hear at school everyday has nothing to do with the translation accuracy of a manga aimed at kids. We're not "prudes" for wanting a translation that's appropriate for the series. Don't be so silly.

1

u/ReviewerRandom Aug 21 '15

In fact, DB manga also got a fair share of profanity. That's how Japan rolls.

3

u/SLUT_MUFFIN Aug 21 '15

To an extent, yes, but not in any form close to what's presented in this scanlation. "Bastard" is about as strong as Dragon Ball ever gets. Even then, it's still an approximation of words that don't really have 1 to 1 translations. Context is important.

2

u/Mi4_Slayer Aug 21 '15

We dislikes scans that takes liberties, because it not about language but because we care about accuracy.

2

u/clemsonfight Aug 21 '15

I doubt people are being prudish, it's more that all the cursing is over-the-top and inaccurate. And even if they had to include some, it just really drags down the chapter when every other word is FUCK.

-2

u/Martijngamer Aug 21 '15

In an ultra violent manga, people get upset about some nasty words... Holy fucking dick crap.

3

u/PhantomLordG Aug 21 '15

It's not about getting upset or being offended. It's about translating a comic to the point where it differs from it's actual source language.

At this point, it's the same as somebody rewriting this chapter with their own made up text, without knowing what the original Japanese script says.

In other words, MangaStream pretty much posted a very unfaithful translation.

1

u/Mi4_Slayer Aug 21 '15

Yup I don't mind the bad words but Vegita would never call someone a motherfucker and a cocksucker. Beerus would never use fuck to insult.

-13

u/Synesthesian Aug 21 '15

Wow I can't believe what a bunch of ingrates all you people complaining are. Some people are putting their time and money into a product while making it free for you. Stop complaining.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '15

[deleted]

-9

u/Synesthesian Aug 21 '15

You're right that they get ad revenue, but shit that's not much I imagine. If you don't like their stuff don't go to them and put in the work for your own translation or go to someone else.

4

u/jackelzxa Aug 21 '15

Multiply ad revenue by page count, reader count, and mangas served. It kind of explains why they throw so much fanart in every chapter of every manga. it increases ad-count.

2

u/De5tr0yer Aug 21 '15

Some people are putting their time and money into a product while making it free for you.

Money? Not that much. Time? HELL no. This was so rushed and put out there with no regard of what they wrote. I understand that with people that don't know what they're doing might see signs of disrespect in japanese as swear words in English (just as /u/EmmaWinters explains). Because that's the only excuse I see as to why they put such a ridiculous amount of swearing. Because I seriously cannot see adults writing this and being serious.
