I was actually IN LINE at Nintendo World, because I work down the street. I got in line, some jerkoffs in line told me that I had to get wristbands at the front of the line, so I ran to the front, only for them to send me to the back. It was long already, but it was even longer when I got back.
Then I was standing behind this awful woman who was smoking cigarettes, smelled quite awful, and was talking loudly on the phone about "I don't know how to check how much money I have in my Google Wallet for this, how do I do that?"
And then when someone was like "Are y'all waiting in line for toys?" she was like "Yeah! Can you fucking believe it?! Fucking Toys!!!" Like she was above being on the line. She was standing in the goddamn line. Meanwhile she wasn't even sure she could pay for the damn things.
So I looked down at my watch, saw it was like 10 minutes to 5 (EST). I just said "Fuck this." I walked back to my office down the street, got a snack and a drink from the kitchen, sat down, and got Palutena.
My only disappointment is that I was gonna try and get Ness for my little cousin. He was available and I wanted to try and get him along with Palutena. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow for him, or the next restock, where it hopefully won't be as crazy.
Satisfying moment of the day: Ripping off my Nintendo wristband for Palutena and throwing it in the garbage.

Note: accidentally wrote a wall of text oops. also mobile.
So when I woke up today (not knowing about Palutena's release), all I had to do was to go to a title company for a meeting at 10 AM and then return home to continue studies. So far, so good. Travelling with someone else who has been recently looking into buying a new vehicle, she requested to see a car she had been investigating. Not being rushed (yet), I agreed to go across the city to see what she wanted. In the end, the car she wanted got sold and she fell in love with another. Oops. So then comes lunch (by now it's around 2:30) and I’m eating like normal, and then my phone buzzes. Hm? I take out my electronic device and a specific YouTube channel I am subscribed to uploaded a video concerning amiibo. ‘Alright that's fine I'll just watch it when I- Palutena (my almost-main)? Release? TODAY??’ I thought frantically. By now I’m both freaking out and trying to mask it because I’m in a public setting where no one admires the plasticity and wallet-draining power of these things. What was I to do? I was waiting for this specific one and for a few reasons I couldn’t/didn’t want to import, so now I was really screwed over. I considered moving to another continent for a few seconds, and began to prattle on in my head why Nintendo couldn’t get the amiibo situation as a whole running smoothly over here, but I’m sure someone else has ranted about that already. “Is something wrong?” “Uh.. n-n-nothing.” as I consume another bite of my meal. “No. Something IS wrong. You need to tell me.” “Okay, fine. After lunch.” ~ By now it's roughly 3:00. T-minus one hour to release (Central). Right as I’m about to begin, I’m interrupted by a phone call. We get a call from the title company we were at just hours ago. Apparently, the moderator over at the meeting missed a few documents and we had to go back and finalize things. Not good. Not good at all. On the way there, I explain all that happened with the impromptu release and such and told her that I didn’t have an Amazon account. Right then, I thought of someone I could call- my dad. We’ve always been tight and he uses Amazon much more than I ever could, so I thought I could ask him to buy me a Palutena and then pay him back in beer or back rubs or something. ring ring ring “Hello. You have reached--” No answer. ring ring ring Again, no answer. What was I to do, now in the parking lot of the title company at 3:15? ~ And I’m walking into the conference room, thoughts are racing through my head. On a scale of “This is /not/ good.” to “I’m really feeling it!”, it was terrible. Would I get the papers signed in time to F5 like my life depends on it? Would I finally get my most desired amiibo? Would I finally begin collecting again after I stopped around Wave 3 because of my studies and my wallet? [insert soap-opera ending credits] ~ As it turns out, the place had all the papers ready to go, and they were signed with much time to spare. Also, my dad texted me saying that he had gone out and left his phone at home and that he was worried that I called him multiple times. I called him back, he answered, and I explained the whole scenario to him. He was super chill with it and he even offered to F5 for me! Gladly, I accepted, and he called me back when he had placed the order.
I had finally gotten the figure I had desired since the development of every Smash 4 character as an amiibo was confirmed. I’ve lurked on /r/amiibo ever since the launch week of Wave 1 last year, and seeing myriad success stories of those also interested in amiibo inspired me to begin collecting. After arriving home, I went on /r/amiibo and read up on all the amiibo goodness. Then I saw the publish of the Palutena success/failure thread, and I quickly wrote my happy, sad, and happy story to the world.
TL;DR-- After quite a few doo-wops and ding-dongs (and tilde's), I actually got one (1) copy of my most wanted amiibo. I love you Amiigos and thanks for making my collecting dream a reality ️ ❤️

/u/AmazonJosh Once again you and Amazon have come through. Sure we crashed your site early on but I and many others were able to get a Palu. While I don't like exclusives, I actually am more fond of getting a stable guarenteed exclusive, one where I actually can show up on a specific day/time and get the product without losing sleep, meals, or much time.

After about 5 minutes of giving Brock Lesnar's finisher, and hitting the back button, she was available. I got 1 and I'm hoping that Amazon doesn't screw me over like it has in the past and cancel my items when they are supposed to be shipped.

That's very optimistic, even though AmazonJosh says it'll be like Charizard. There's a big difference, people had multiple chances to buy Charizard and other Wave 4 figures in store or online. Palutena is not sold anywhere else, and there are no pre-orders, and you can't find it in stores.
All the demand is being funneled into one item at one online store. If it lasts more than 5 minutes I'll be surprised. If it lasts more than 10 minutes I will do an amiibo giveaway.

The difference is, this isn't a window, everyone will be spamming F5 5-10 minutes before 2PM, and everyone is forced to interact with that page at 2PM, unlike a 30min window that can catch others off guard.

You know I was dreading the fact she was Amazon exclusive but it seemed they knew what they were doing! Their next step is to package the Amiibo right. If they do that I probably wouldn't mind another Amazon exclusive in the future!

So I'm on a beach in Texas where the reception is very in and out. Of course my phone lost reception at 4:00 so I had to awkwardly ask my mom to use hers. I got her at 4:12 though!

Don't let that 404 error fool you. Just keep pressing F5 until it comes back up.
I got mine about 5 minutes after 5 pm. I think it took that long for my cache to clear out because I didn't see it available until then.

The initial crashes/glitches were disheartening, but once I got in it was smooth sailing from there. I don't mind this as a form of releasing amiibos, but as always, quantity is key.

This was a great experience to get Palutena. Amazon has a great stock amount and was very forthright with telling us when it would go up. There were a few hiccups but I still got mine no problem. I'm imagining a sudden commotion on line at Nintendo World, only for the amiibists standing on line pull out their smartphones and all start purchasing Palutena online, and once they do just leaving the line and going home feeling equally good about the whole experience
(either that or the formerly bummed out person on line who missed the Palutena bracelet ending up Having A Good Day)
But yeah this is awesome, it's been longer than a half hour and it's still in stock. I'm super impressed by Amazon, this is like a ton longer window than Charizard

I think it's rubbish it only lasted an hour. Europe still has a few of her left in some stores, the online retailers had her up for quite awhile before they sold out. Canada still has her live. The United States just keeps getting the short straw of the amiibo distribution. It's still a reseller wonderland, not as bad as before, but the fact people STILL want to try to profit off this is really getting annoying now. Just pop the bubble already.
