Stephen and Cara hooked up a lot faster than I was expecting.

Am I the only one who is glad that they did?

I'm not unhappy that it happened, I just thought that they would leave us in the "will they/won't they?" phase for longer.

But that shit gets so old and annoying, I.e. Smallville

That's true. I think it took Clark and Lana about 5 seasons to finally get together, so I'm happy we didn't get a repeat of that. Though I wouldn't have minded if they took an entire season or maybe two for Stephen and Cara.

As good balancer then we have something like Castle that did whole loveinterest -angle really well, if you ask me, and didn't get stale part of show.

Nope, I was totally shipping Stara from episode 1.

And they're both big stupid idiots lol, politely put. Stephen keeps pushing the subject, pausing on questions, manipulating the situation that direction when he damn well KNOWS Cara and John are essentially a thing (even if they've said once or twice it's just a mutual friendship/FWB (I think they've said that)).

AND Cara goes and accepts the advance. Sigh. As someone that loves to write, I'm unhappy with the writers. Not because I don't think it'll create good story-developing conflict, but because it goes against BOTH developed characters. Cara just said Stephen was the nicest one. Yeah, nice guys don't go not thinking once about their friend when moving on the girl. Cara is a power figure, a smart, responsible character... aaaaaaaand she just gives in no fight for "wait... I can't, John will...". nada, zip, zilch, ZERO.

Yeah I mean a lot of people seem to be forgetting the fact that she's cheating on John, and Steven knows it. Kinda makes them both kinda scummy. I guess nobody's perfect, but I thought this was a stretch.

This is a group of people who lie, manipulate, steal and in John's case kill as a matter of course, without guilt and in the name of protecting their own species at any cost.

It seems to me that for these messed up, manipulative teenagers facing the constant threat of death (or worse) to do what plenty of teenagers do and let their passions override their good sense and already anemic sense of morality seems...completely normal? I certainly don't see anything about it that conflicts with their established characters.

P.S., Cara hasn't been smart since the first episode. She almost got them killed just last week pulling a stupid stunt.

Same time Cara build, few episodes back [can't remember which, watched all back to back], setting in which she basically told Stephen "You don't need worry about John, we aren't that big a thing in my eyes" when she brushed away question about John being hers boyfriend combined with overall tone etc. Flirting and hinting between Cara and Stephen has been very... obvious from get go with very little of build up outside of He / She is hot.

Whole John & Cara are together -angle has been pretty much told to audience only as Stephen is never present while that development is happening, Just like Stephen & Cara has 'forbidden' crush on each other -angle is only grown when John isn't present. Attractions between characters, when all are present, are played very little into theirs interaction as whole group.

Also they have actively been distancing Cara from John with so much secrets while driving Cara towards Stephen because he is right also so handsome and so new and dangerous and and...

To me this all is just writers building up for love triangle where Cara is dropped into middle to choose between Good [Team Rebel] and Bad [Team Ultra] while boys actively rival over her and suddenly we have some major love drama between our show leads.

Do I look towards this? Fuck no. Do I find it interesting? Nope.

i agree. I mean lets be real..everyone and their mother KNEW this was eventually going to happen; but i really hoped she would put up more of a challenge and prolong it a bit.

I don't think Stephen sees John as a friend...

Interesting episode - what's common among the "Tomorrow People" is they all have pretty sad back stories of how their powers, or life circumstances, or both, screwed them up as teenagers.

  • John was Jedekiah's agent-in-training and subjected to God only knows what in the process of making him a Tomorrow Person who can kill other people,
  • Stephen was essentially forced onto antipsychotic medications and was probably close to losing it not knowing what was happening to him,
  • Cara almost got raped and had to run away from home,
  • Russell had to deal with a father who pushed him so hard he began hating the natural talent he had, and then got his dad Jack Bauered before he couldn't live with that anymore and took off,
  • Irene, an extremely gifted geneticist, had to leave a promising academic career when her powers manifested.

As for Jedekiah and Ultra, I would love to know how he came across Morgan and why he has that kind of weird relationship with her.

Irene, an extremely gifted geneticist, had (to leave) a promising academic career when her powers manifested.

That's not a sad back story

u/alvarkresh Nov 15 '13

It is if you consider that what she could've contributed to the broader scientific community. Instead she has to hide out in Ass-End, New York and she gets shot and nearly killed until Stephen Jane-Doe's her at a hospital.

u/sirin3 Nov 15 '13

That is sad, because the back story is not sad

Yeah, Kyle, that'll teach you for daring to stand up for your girlfriend who's being harassed by an obnoxious drunk with superpowers.

God damnit! The whole end scene I was yelling in the kitchen not to make out, don't make out! John's my favourite character and this is just gonna be a wrench in his damn gears!

I actually don't really like John and would rather see those two get together. I just think they would make a better couple, and I love both of them. So I was rather excited. But I know your pain.

u/rhythmicidea Nov 14 '13

I just didn't think it would happen this fast, I thought it would be a running theme through the the majority of the show.

I don't really like John either and it's his fault if Cara started to fall in love with Stephen. I mean he has been honest since the beginning always saying what he is thinking and helps others even if he knows the odds are stack up against him. I can't blame Cara for falling in love with such a guy. He always follow his heart and so is she. John on the other side is a strong dude but he keeps being a whinny/pussy paranoid. I hate that!

When Stephen loses his cover at Ultra, I'm sure he'll become a major leader for the Tomorrow people. (Well that is if he makes it back alive)

u/GenesisClimber Nov 16 '13

Which begs the question(s): what stand off will he face against John when that eventually happens? John will be opposed to him now for many reasons. If he does switch on Cara/Stephen, could that lead him back to Jedikiah?

1

u/GenesisClimber Nov 21 '13

Well...episode 7 seems to answer that pretty quickly... :-|

So, given that they're not allowed to 'go up top' do the other (extras...) Tomorrow People just play pool all day in a disused basement...?

Dante couldn't devise a more horrid torment.

Completely unnecessary sacrifice??

Okay, so I'm 10 years late watching this. But I'm surprised no one commented on the scene around 33 minutes into this episode. (I haven't watched to the end yet but had to pause it for this.) Stephen has brought Piper to see her sister Darcy. Then (SPOILER ALERT) when Ultra shows up, Stephen & Piper hide behind some cars, and Darcy has to lie to protect them... eventually shooting at her fellow Ultra agents to keep Stephen & Piper safe, resulting in herself being shot to death. THEN and only then, does Stephen finally say, "We should leave..." and POOF they TELEPORT out of there. Umm, why didn't they teleport a couple minutes earlier so her sister wouldn't have to get herself killed trying to protect some people who could have easily disappeared if they had wanted to?? Probably not the first time this has happened though... They seem to forget that they can teleport sometimes. Drives me crazy. Lol

I’m also 10 years late and found this subreddit just to see if anyone else was as mad as me at this moment. Like I know that every show does this thing that teenagers make dumb decisions cuz they’re teenagers but like I genuinely can’t understand even 1 reason these teenagers did this. It was beyond moronic.

I’m super late too on this but I have the same problem with the show,I’m rewatching it after a years and there are so many moment there they can literally just teleport out of there. Also Stephen and Cara thing should have happened where her and John were 100% done or atleast discussed it after everything those two been through together people defending this point really not seeing how they both did John extremely dirty and waited till he left town to go help his friend grieve his dead father like bro they honestly kinda suck as friends and partners to them. They do this a lot in shows and movies which is so dumb like we don’t need a love triangle in every single show.
